Description

C. JAQUET.
SBPARATOR.
PPLIGATION FILED .a lTo all whoma't may concern n GERMANY.
Be it known that I, CHARLES JAQUET, a
'y subject of 'the lGrerman Emperor, and residing at Strassburg-Knigshofen, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Separatore, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to improvements `in separators for grain and the like, and relates more particularly to imi provements in tliemeans forl elastically supporting or suspending :the flat separating i sistance in longitudinal t. e.` axial .y tions of several 20 sieves" or screens insuch'separators. v
In order to makev this f invention y more readily understood, I will .'iescribe it with reference to the accompanying drawing, in whichg f Figures l, 2 `and, 3 represent side` elevaforms ofhmyy improved supports with adjacent'` parts, partly in section. Figs. 1,2a andf'show respectively plan views of these supports. For supporting the 'screen boxes of plane- .action it is now customary toemplOy rods 'or spiral springs in rows or in bundles. However, owing` to the relatively low capacity of redirection,
' the number of such rods must be large, and
on the other hand,1in the case of springs,
though they readily admit of lateral movement, they show the disadvantage that they easily give or extend longitudinally, so that the sifter will execute movements also in this direction, which seriously interferes with smooth operation. The object of this invention is to do away with these drawbacks by usingas supports, which may be provided singly or in groups and bundles, twist-` ed or helically wound flat or round bars, whereby owing to the artificial shortening of the individual rods an enhanced rigidity in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the rods is obtained, without the unimpeded yhorizontalshaking action ofthe screen being in any way interfered with, and in which instance the number of such rods may also be reduced. i
'Ihe screen boxes of plane-separatorsare given a horizontal gyratory motion by means Copies of this patent Vmaybe obtained for n STATES PA' IE1\TTV OFFICE.

of eccentric or crank gear, and for this purpose are supported by a number of vibrating `or pendulum rods. In the embodiments of my invention illustrated, these supports are in the shape of singleflat 'bars or bundles of rods a, helically twisted about their axis. In Fig. l there is shown a single such support a, secured below to a rigid shoe b vand above to the vibrating screen box c. In Fig. `2 is illustrated a group of such twisted supports, and in Fig. 3 a bundle of cally intertwisted. For the purpose of enhancing the elasticity of these pendulum rods, the number of twists may be increased toward the middle part of their length. By this twisted formation, which ycauses an artilicial4 shortening of the individual rods and thereby an enlargement of the crosssectional area thereof, obviously, a greater elasticity of the rods in lateral direction and an increase of their stability in longitudi nal direction is obtained. -Such supports, therefore, combine all the advantages of the old supports, without showing any ,of their disadvantages, and they can, obviously, also be used with separators in which the screens 'are hung-up.
"1.' In a plane separator, the combination Of a base, anupright resilient supporting member consistin of a helically twisted bar with the pitch o? the twists decreasing toward `the center, the lower end of said supi them, heliporting member being rigidly secured in and upon the base, and a vibratory screen .secured upon the upper end of said supportlng member.
2. Inplane separators, a composite pendulum support comprising a plurality of elasticmembers, the support being so twisted about its longitudinal axis that the cross sectional` varea is practically the same throughout the length of the support, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aix in presence of two witnesses.
' CHARLES JAQUET.
