To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL GRAHAM, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe- Cleansers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a pipe cleanser, especially designed for cleaning and flushing the interiorvof pipes, tubes,-and other conduits.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a simple, durable and inexpensive device that can be advantageously. used for cleansing the pipes, tubes, coils and faucets employed for dispensing beer and other beverages.
Another object of this invention is to pro- Hi8 a pipe cleansing device wherein water under pressure and a suitable detergent are utilized for thoroughly cleansing pipes of all foreign matter and then flushing the same, whereby the pipes can be immediately usedwithout any danger of beer or other beverages being polluted by the detergent used in connection with the device.
Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be iereinafter specifically described and then claimed.

In describing my invention by aid of the drawing, I desire to point out that I intend said views as merely illustrative of an ex ample whereby my invention may be applied in practice, and I do not limit my claims to the precise arrangement and construction of parts indicated. The following description is therefore to be construed broadly as including substitute arrangements and constructions which are the obvious equivalent of those shown.
In the drawing, the reference numeral 1 denotes a wall panel or support and secured thereto by screw bolts 2 or other fastening means are the slotted lugs or brackets 3 of a Specification of Letters Patent.

The lugs or brackets 3 are oppositely disposed intermediate the ends of the casing 41; and an end of said casing is closed by a wall 5 having an opening concentric with the walls thereof screw threaded to receive a short section of pipe 7". The opposite end of the casing 4.- is closed by a detachable cap or coVe'r S having a peripheral flange engaging the outer walls of the casing 4. The cap 8 is detachably held upon the end of the casing 4 by a yoke 9 having tapering side arms 10 provided with inwardly projecting pins or trunnions adapted to engage in bosses 11, carried by the side walls of the casing 4. The yoke 9 hasa central set screw 12- that can be adjusted to engage the cap 8 to hold the cap upon the casing with the yoke 9 in a hori zontal position, as shown in Fig. 2.
The casing 4: constitutes a holder for a suitable solid detergent 13 that is held by a container 14 having the ends thereof provided with concentric openings 15 registering with a central longitudinal opening or bore 16 formed in the detergent. The container 1 L permits of the detergent being safely and conveniently handled and placed in the casing i, and to space one end of the container let from the cap 8, said cap is provided with an inwardly projecting lug 17 that engages the end of the container. (See Fig. 2.)
The casing 4e, adjacent'to the cap 8, has a connection 18 fora short section of pipe 19. The pipe 19 is connected by an elbow 20 to :a pipe 21 that extends longitudinally above the casing i. The pipe 21 is provided with a conventional form of check valve 22 and the end of said pipe is'provided with a threeway connection 23 connected by a short section of pipe 24: to a three-way Valve 25 connected to the short section of pipe 7. The three-way valve is of the ordinary and well known type having a ported plug 26 adapted to be rotated through the medium of a crank or lever 27. The three-way valve 25 is connected by pipes 28 and elbows 29-to a water supply pipe 80 and one of the pipes is provided with a globe valve 31 whereby the supply of water to the valve 25 can be shut off. The pipe 30 represents an ordinary city water supply pipe and when it is not convenient to obtain water under pressure from the city main, a pump can be installed to produce sufiicient pressure for cleansing'and flushing purposes.
To illustrate the manner of using the cleansing device, I have showna bar 32 having a faucet 33 and a cooling coil 34 adapted to be connected by a flexible pipe or hose 35 j to a barrel or keg 36 containing a beverage, as beer, the barrel or keg having the ordinary air connections 37 whereby the contents thereof can be forced to the faucet 33. l l hen the pipe 35, coil 3% and faucet 33 are to be cleansed and flushed, a valve 38 of the draft tube is closed and then the pipe 35 is disconnected from the valve 38 and coupled by an ordinary union connection 39 to the three-way connection 23, as shown in Fig. l. The faucet 33 is then opened and the three- I way valve adjusted whereby the pressure of water from the supply pipe passes into i the pipe 7'' and the bore 16 of the detergent. As the water passes through the detergent sutlicient quantities are removed to form a; solution, which then passes through the 3 pipes 19 and 21 into the pipe 35, through the coil 3% and is (glischarged from the faucet 33. 1 This operation is carried on until such time: as all foreign matter has been removed from the pipe 35, coil 3d and the faucet, and then the three-way valve 25 is again manipulated 5 to shut off the connection between the pipe-f 7 and the water supply, whereby the water: will pass upwardly in the pipe 24: and through the three-way connection 23 into the i pipe 35. The check valve 22 prevents the water from entering the casing 4 and the? pressure of water thoroughly flushes the pipe 1 35, the coil 3t and faucet 33, thereby removing any of the detergent that might adhere to the walls of the pipe or coil. After flushing for a short period of time, the supply of water can be shut off at the valve 31, the pipe uncoupled from the connection 23 and then connected to the valve Byi opening the valve 33 beer or beverage can, be drawn in the usual manner.
From the foregoing it will be obscrvedi; that l have devised a compact cleansing de- 5 vice that can be easily and quickly coupled to a cooling coil to thoroughly cleanse the same and connections thereof, thus permitting a bar tender to thoroughly cleanse the dispensing apparatus after each and every barrel or keg should it be necessary.
I do not care to limit my invention to any particular kind of detergent as many may be used with or without the container 14:.
lVhat I claim is 1. In a pipe cleanser, the combination with means for supplying water under pressure,-of a detergent holder in communication with said means, said holder comprising a casing, a container arranged therein and having the ends thereof provided with openings, a solid detergent snugly enveloped by said container and having a longitudinal bore alining with the openings in the ends of said container and through which water passes to contact only with the walls of the bore, a detachable cap closing an end of said casing, means carried by said cap for spacing said container therefrom, and means for controlling the passage of water through said holder.
2. In a pipe cleanser, the combination with means for supplying water, of a con.- tainer having the ends thereof provided with concentric openings, one of which is adapted to receive water and the other to discharge water, and a. solid detergent snugly engaged by the walls and ends of said container, said detergent having a longitudinal bore formed therein communicating with the openings in saidcontainer and adapted to have the walls thereof washed by water whereby quantities of the solid detergent are carried off in solution.
