"H- N-H. LUGRIN Doon CHECK.'
No.. 110,985. Patented Jan. 17, 1871.
anni. ,define timidi .Leners Patent no. 110,985; dana January 17, 1871.
IMPRovEMr-:N'r 1N oooR-cHEcKs.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettere Patent and making part of the same.
To all persons to whom, these presents may come:
Be it known that L'HonATIo 'NELSON HICKS LUGRIN, of Chelsea, of the county of Suiolk and State of Massachusetts, haveinventeda new and'usefnl Door-Fastener ,and do herebyr declare the same tobe fully described in the following vspecification and represented inthe accompanying dra-wing, of which- Figure 1 denotes al top View;
Figure 2, a side elevation; and
'Figure 3, a longitudidal section 'of it.
The object of the fastener is to hold a door open at any desirable angle or position .relatively to `its frame, within the limits of mptionof the door on its hinges.
A denotes a metallicV base-plate having teeth or dents, a, projecting from its lower surface. A*
At 'or near the middle of the said baseeplat'e there is hinged to it,on a. low standard, b, erected ou it, a lever, B, provided with a sharp flange,c, projectingr upward from it atv its lower end; or instead of such flange there maybe arow of teeth or spurs. The fulcrum or hinge-pin of the lever is shown at d.
A helical spring, C, supported on a stud, e, elevated on the base-plate, presses at its upper end againstthe lower surface of the longer arm of the lever B.
' Furthermore, there is fpivoted to the base-plate, near i its rear end, a catch-lever, D, formed as represented,
an'l provided with a.y spring, f, which, fastened to the baseplate, bears at its free end against the lower arm of the catch-lever.
The upper arm of the catch-lever d isV serrated or furnished with teeth, as shown at g, extends up through a slot, 71, in the lever B, and catches on the end of the slot or ou a"nietallic can1plate,',iixed on the lever and arranged with the slot, as shown iu gsl and 3. 'In using thc said door-fastener, it, when the door is open to the proper extent, is to be pressed underneath the lower alge of the door so as to cause the'sharp aiige or teeth of the lower end of the lever B to go under and in cont-act with the said edge. By pressing ones foot ou the longer arm of the lever the flange maybe caught 'into the door and the lever be held down bythe catch-leverD. The door will then be maintained in the required'position.
In o rder to relieve the door from the fastener, it will only be necessary for a persony to depress with his foot the lower arm of the lever-catch D so as to enable the helical spring to act and force upward the lonfrer arm of the .lever B.
The door-fastener as composed of 'tl1e1dentateil base-plate A and lever B, the spring (Land the levercatch D with or without the spring f, arranged' and combined substantially in`manner and to operate as and for the purpose as liereinbefore described.
