SHUTTLE.
T0 all whom it may concern Be it known that' I, VERNON ROYLE, a citiz en of the United States, and resident of Paterson, in the county of Passaie and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Inaprovement in Shuttles, of whieh the following is a specificaition.
My invention relatesto shuttles and more pz'mrticularly to a shuttle f0r nse in a circular 100m, ehe objeet being to provide for' promptly separating the .warp threads in advance of the thread guide and lay t0 such an extent as will permit the weft thread to be pressed into close proximity to the weaving pin or core, and to provide at the same time for leading the thread into the thread guide and lay in a direction appr oximately tangent to the periphery of the weaving pin 01 core, without passing the thread through an eye in the-thread-guide and lay.

These warp spreaclers or fences 12 und 13 are arranged in planes ap'proximately parallel t a plane tangent t0 the weavingpin 01 core 3, and the fence er spreader 14, from its advance endbackto a point about heidway 0f its length, is approximately parallel to the fences 12 and 13. The fences 01 ' spreaders 12, 13, 14, ha"e their achance ends arranged in substantial alinement, the line of their advance ends being oblique to a radial line diawn 11'0111 tl1e center of tl1e weaving pin 01 core, with the advance end 0f the upper fence 12 on a radial line in advanee of the advance ende of the fences o1 spreaders 13, 14.
The preferred shape of the fences er spreaders 12, 13, 14, is clearly shown in Fig. 2, the advance end of the spreacler 12 being fairly sharp to gradnally separate the warp threads, while the advance end 0f the fence 01 spreader 13 is more blunt to eontiriue the spreading operation, and the advanc e end 01 14 which engages the warp threads m prex imity to the point Wliere the thread g1 11d0 and lay is to press the weft thread 1nto elose contact with the weaving pin or core, has a. blunt end for spreading the warp threads immediately in advance of the action of the thread guide and lay, and is so shaped as to maintain this spread while the thread guide and lay is plaeing the weit thread in positio1i and forcing it by a screvg or cam motio'n firmly against the precedmg weft thread. This provicles egainst any possible feilure in eifectin g e perfect seperetion of the werp threads end it also provides for e greduel but rapid spreading of the threeds totheir meximum opening in proximity to the threed guide end ley, so (hat the letter mey do its work eflectively.
