improvements in safety locks and more par ticularly toa safety lock for a wagon dump in grain elevators, the object of the invention being to provide a lock which will be rendered effective when the trap door of the grain pit is closed so that the dump logs Wlll not drop down when a team'is driven on the dump.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a safety lock of the above character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and, at the same time, is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which, 7

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, '1 indicates the frame of the dump and 2 the logs thereof, said logsbelng'provided in their ends with. the longitudinal-openings 3. Suitable wear plates 1 are secured to the ends of the logs 2 and are provided with a central opening adapted to be arranged in alinement with the openings 3. Disposed beneath the dump and rotatably mounted within the lower ends of" the hang ers 5, is the mam shaft 6, said hangers being secured in any suitable manner tot-he underside of the dump. Secured to each end of fthe shaft 6 and adapted to "be actuated thereby, are the shifting arms 7 said arms being provided at their inner ends with the sleeves 8, havingset screws 9 adapted to engage the ends of the shaft 6, so that the arms 7 will rotate therewith. The shaft 6 is rotated by the opening and closing of the trap door 16 through the mediumof .thebar 17, said bar being provided at its upper end with a flanged casting 18, whereby the bar may be readily secured to the door 16, by the use of screws or similar fastening means. The bar 17 is pro vided with a longitudinal slot 19 which is adapted to receive the transverse pin 20 carried by the outer ends of the arms 21, said arm being provided at its inner end with a.
sleeve 22 carrying a set screw 23 adapted to engage the shaft 6, so that the actuation of said arm will rotate the shaft 6. The arm 21 will'be actuated to rotate the shaft when'the pin 20 reaches the ends of the a slot 19, upon the movement of the bar17,
said bar being moved by the opening and closing of the door 16.
Fromthe above description, taken in connection with -theaccompanying drawings, it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and durable safety lock for wagon dumps in grain elevators. In opening the "trap door 16, which leads to the grain pit, the bar 17 will be actuated to rotate the shaft 6 through the arm 21' and reciprocate the pins 12 by means of the levers 7, thus withdrawing the pins 12 from the openings 3 in the ends of the logs2. On
