Be it known that T, CIRIL BUJsnn, a subject of the Emperor of r-lrustria-l-lungary, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothes Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is the production of a clothes hanger, which is adapted for use for drying clothes, and which can be collapsed within a small space when not in use.

A further object is to provide, means whereby the hanger can be extended or co].- lapsed by an operator standing at one end of the device.

To these ends my invention consists in the construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan of my invention, part of the structure being broken away, in order that the device may be shown on a large scale, and Fig. 2 is a perspective of a detail.

In the drawings, A indicates a rectangular frame, which is adapted to be placed in position for use where desired either indoors or out of doors. This frame is provided with a pair of parallel lines 2 and 3, which are made of wire or other suitable material placed inside the frame and permanently secured to one end of the frame by twisting the wire around the end piece 4 and to the other end piece 5 of the frame by means of adjusting bolts 6, which are adapted to take up any slack in the lines and hold them taut. Mounted upon the lines are a plurality of transverse supporting arms 7 having eyes 8 on their opposite ends through which the lines are threaded. These transverse supports 7 are free to slide lengthwise of the lines and are held in substantially parallel relation by collapsible coupling elements B and G of corresponding construction, one being associated with the line 2 and the other with the line 3. Each of these coupling elements consists of a guide 9 in the form of a sleeve seated freely to slide longitudinally of the transverse support 7, on which it is mounted, and formed with a pair of oppositely disposed lateral lugs 10 and 11, to which are hinged by the pivot pins 12,

The ends of the links 13 and 14: extending outermost from the guide 9 are pivotally secured posed of a series of links and guides on the transverse and longitudinal supports, said links being adapted to collapse or fold together into compact form when the trans verse supports are moved together. The guides 9 on the transverse supports and the guides 15 on the longitudinal lines allow the links to swing freely, but at all times serve to hold the transverse supports in substan tially evenly spaced apart position when in collapsed or extended condition.

For the purpose of assisting in moving the transverse supports into their outermost position, a pair of flexible lines 17 and 18 are secured to the outermost guides on the trans verse supports. These lines are run over sheave pulleys 19 and 20, which are mounted upon the frame A. The free ends of said lines being extended through guides 21 on the side of the frame and to a position from which it is desired to move the transverse. supports into extended condition. To collapse or fold the transverse supports in compact form the operator can move them into such position without the aid of any mechanical device.

In accordance with the patent statutes, I have described the principles of operation of my invention together with the apparatus, which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the construction shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set forth within the scope of the following claims.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. A clothes hanger, comprising, in combination, a frame, a pair of substantially a are coupled together in series and movable into extended or collapsed condition in said frame by engaging and moving one end of said series.

2. A clothes hanger, comprising, in combination, a frame, a pair of lines spaced apart and mounted in said frame, a plurality of transverse supports having their ends looped around and slidably mounted on said lines, guides movable longitudinally of said transverse supports, auxiliary guides longitudinally movable of said lines between each adjacent pair of supports and links hinged to said guides on said transverse supports and said guides on said lines, whereby said transverse supports are movably connected together and adapted to be extended in semouse ries into outermost position or collapsed in series into folded condition.

3. A clothes hanger, comprising, in combination, a frame, a pair ,of lines spaced apart in parallel position longitudinally in said frame, means for tightening said lines, a plurality of transverse supports mounted upon said lines having their ends looped around said lines, whereby said supports are movable freely longitudinally of said frame, guides mounted upon the ends of said supports and movable longitudinally thereon, auxiliary guides movable along said lines, links hinged to the guides on said supports and to the guides on said lines, whereby a hinged extensible coupling is provided between said supports and said lines.
