RESILIENT WHEEL.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WVAI/rnn S. ALLYN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Thompsonville, in the county of Franklin and State of lllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Resilient Wheels, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in resilient wheels and more 1. articularly to a resilient hub for vehicle wheels, the object of the invention being toprovide a resilient hub which will permit movement of a wheel in various directions and absorb the shock and jar caused by driving over rough and uneven roads so that the same will not be conveyed to the body of the vehicle.
Another object of the invention is to provide a resilient hub which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation, parts being broken away and in section; Fig. 2 is a trai'isverse sectional view; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the disk; Fig. 4 is an elevation of.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the axle of a vehicle and in the present instance the rear axle is to be described and illustrated in connection with my invention. Mounted upon the axle 1 and adapted to inclose the same is a casing 2 upon the outer end of which is formed a frame 3. This frame is preferably rectangular in cross section, as illustrated in Fig. 1, and is provided with an extension 4 in which are arranged the coil springs 5. axle is a circular plate 6, which is provided upon its rear face with a brake drum 7 and further provided at its central portion with an annular shoulder 8 which is adapted to abut against the end of the casing 1. to prevent longitudinal movement of the axle. The plate (5 is provided upon one face thereof with outwardly projecting pins or lugs 9 which are adapted to be arranged within the slots 10 formed within the disk 11 whereby the disk will be rotated upon the rotation of the axle. Formed upon the inner end of the stub axle 12 is an annular plate 13 upon the inner face of which are formed the inwardly projecting pins or lugs 1. 1 which are preferably arranged at right angles with respect to the pins 9 and adapted to be disposed within the slots 10' of the disk 11 whereby upon the rotation of the axle and the disk, the stub axle 12 will be rotated therewith. The plate 13 is rotatably mounted within the opening 15 formed in the slide member 16 and arranged between the walls of the slide 16 are the grooves 18 which are adapted to receive the inwardly extending edges 19 of the frame 3 so that the slide member 16 will be guided throughout its movement. The coil springs 5 are arranged within the extension 4 and are adapted to be disposed between the closed end thereof and one side of the slide 16 so that the slide is resiliently retained within the frame 3. Mounted upon the stub axle 12 for rotation thereon is a hub 20 which is provided with the usual radially projecting spokes 21.
From the above description it will be readily apparent that upon the rotation of the axle 1 the plate 6 will rotate and the pins 9 engaging within the slots 10 of the disk 11 will rotate the disk and the stub axle 12, upon which the hub 20 is mounted, will be rotated through the medium of the pins 14: formed upon the plate 13 and projecting within the slots 10 of the disk 11. It will be readily apparent that by having the pins 9 and 14 arranged within the slots 10 and 10 that various movements of the wheel will be permitted, the coil springs 5 absorbing any shock or jar which will eliminate the same from being conveyed to the body of the vehicle. It will also be apparent that the device can be quickly taken apart for repairs or readily set up for use and it will.
be also seen that the device itself is'extremely simple in construction and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
Vihile I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the pro-portions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice Without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A device of the class described including a driven axle, a casing therefor, a frame carried by the casing, a plate upon the end of the axle and rotatable within the frame, a slide member movable in said frame, a

2. A driven axle, a plate carried thereby, a stub axle having a plate .formed upon one end, a disk arranged between said plates and means carried by said plates and adapted to engage with the disk to impart motion to the stub axle.

A device of the class described including a driven axle, a plate carried thereby, a stub axle having a plate formed upon one end, a disk arranged between said plates and provided with slots, pins carried by said plates and adapted to engage within said slolts whereby to impart motion to the stub ax e.
4:. A device of the class described including a driven axle, a casing thereon, a frame motion to the stub axle.
5. A driven axle, a casing thereon a frame supported by said casing, a plate rotatably supported in said frame, and having wheel supporting means and said axle and plate having co-acting means to cause the same i to rotate in unison.
6. A drivenaxle, a casing thereon a frame movable within said frame and adapted for rotation, said plate having wheel supporting means and said axle and plate having co-acting means to cause the same to rotate in unison.
7. A driven axle, a casing thereon a frame supported by said casing, a movable plate supported within said frame, wheel supporting means carried by said plate, a disk arranged between the axle and the plate, and means carried by the axle and plate adapted to engage with the disk tonnpart motion ;to the wheel supported means.
