To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Tonnes E. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful linprovements in Tubc lllachine s, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specifica tion. a
lily inventionrelates to a machine, employing one or more suitably supported prcsser belts, which is adapted to wind. a plurality of strips of paper spirally around a mandrel, and unite them to form a continuous tube. v I The object of this invention is to increase the eificienoy and capacity of a machine of the type mentioned, by providing means whereby it tpay be readily adjusted for the manufacture oftubes of various diameters andthickncsses; lhe diameter of the tube to be formed is dependent upon the diameter well. as the width of the strips forming" it. In order, therefore, that my improved machine nfay be operated with mandrels of dificrcnt diameters, I provide means for supporting and holding the mandrel, which means are readily adjusted to the size of theparticular mandrel used, When the mandrel is changed for one of a dillcrent size,- the distance between the two bclt-carrying pulleys must be altered to slach'cn or tighten ,the belt so as to accommodate it to the increased or decreased diameter of the mandrel, as

This action decreasesthe eliiciency of the belt in performing its function of feeding and pressing the strips and limits the capacity of the machine to operation with mandrels of a comparatively narrow range of dillerences in sizes.-
In my machine, I obviate the disadvantages just mentioned by having both of the belt carrying pulleys movable and providing means whereby they may be simultaneously moved toward and away from each other. In this manner am. enabledv to maintain the tension on. the belt'in the center thereof, 7

Each pair of pulleys (22).carries e belt (26) which is arranged with one run thereof wound around the msndrel fl). Power is constantly being transmitted to the pollc'ys so as to turn the belts by means of the power shaft (8), secondary shafts (l9) and their intermeshing gears.

The two base pieces are connected to gether by an adjustable link (32) so that while each separste base piece may be independently moved lengthwise on the bed, they may beerranged to swing together.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that the verious a justments oi the ports of-the machine may be effected without interfering with the continuous transmission of power to the belt carrying I pulleys.
The operation understood by those skilled in the nrt, and it is believed, therefore, it is unnecessnry for the purpose oi this specification, to give c. detailed. description in the operw tion thereof.
What I claim is:
1. In a tube machine, in combination with a mandrel; a bed; a mandrel support cerried on said bed, adapted for adjustment to inandrels of different diameters; two preseer belts; two separate -hcse members, each mounted on the bed for independent movement lengthwise thereot"; e pair of pulleys for each belt carried on each base member, and arranged for edinsti'nent eq y toward and away from each other thereon, and means for transmitting motion to both belts.
