Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 14, 19154.
Application filed December 3,1913. Serial lemma.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, RICHARD H. FULLER- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beverly, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Slippers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments for shoes and more particularly to an attachment for slippers and pumps'and theprimary object of the invention is to provide an attachment which will preventthe stretching of the mouthpf the slipper or pump after use thereof.
Afurther object of the invention resides in providing n yielding member in the edge of the slipper or pump forming the mouth thereof, whereby to snugly fit about the foot at all times and a still further object resides in providing an attachment which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manu'tscture and one which will be very efficient in. use. I
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of ports as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming a port of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a slipper showing an attachment constructed in accordance with my invention applied to use thereon. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the attachment with the coil spring therein, parts being disclosed in section. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the connectin means for the ends of the coil spring; an is a transverse section through the shoe at the mouth edge, showing the attachment epplied thereto.
In describing my invention, Ishall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which 1 indicates a slipper or pump of the usual or any referred type and my invention cont/amp ates the rovision of a means in connection with t e upper edge or mouth thereof to prevent the same from slipping Fig. 4:
from the foot and also toprevent the some from stretching after some use'thcreof. To this end I provide a coil spring 2 which is entirely inclosed or incased in a tubular shield or strip 3, the latter being stitched or otherwise similarl secured to the upper edge or mouth 0 the slipper. This coil spring 2 has the ends thereof secured together by means of a substantially tubular section 4, the same being indented or rooved, as shown at 5 for securel engagmg the s ring. Through this me iurn the ends of t e coll spring are held securely together and properly positioned within the casing or coverin 3 for said spring.
When the tubu ar casing 3 with the coil spring therein is properly applied to the upper edge or mouth of the s seen that the spring will have yielding engagement with the foot of the wearer and obviously retain the shoe in place on the co, it will be foot. Furthermore, it will be seen that this coil spring, will fit snugly about the foot and thus revent the stretchingof the mouth of t e shoe which is ordinarily true in slippers and pumps after short use thereof. is attachment will revent the slip per or pump from stretching and williir sure a snugness throughout the use of the shoe.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a. 'simple, inexpensive and eflicient means for carrying out the objects of the invention and while I have particul s irit or sacrificing any 0 the principles of t e invention.
Havin thus described this invention, what I c aim is:-
The combination with a slipper; of a tubular covering extending'and secured to said slipper about the foot receiving opening thereof, and a coil spring within said coverin said spring having its ends connected.
:1 testimon whereof I hereunto aflix my signature int c presence of two witnesses. RICHARD H. FULLERTON. Witnesses:
SIDNEY J. Hum), WILLIAM J. Gooomo.
