Description
J. HOSL.
PLOW.
APPLICATION FILED OUT. 16, 1913.
Momma UNITED OFFICE.
JOSEPH HOSL, OF YANKTON, SOUTH DAKOTA.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn Host, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Yankto-n, in the county of Yankton and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows which have a reversible share to permit plowing on a side-hill, returning in the last-n-ade furrow and throwing down-hill each way.
The object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved form of rerersible share and a support therefor by which reversal of the share is readily effected.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be pointed out in the detailed description appearing hereinafter.
In order that the invention may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the plow and F 2 is a rear end view thereof; Fig. 3 is a plan view, and Fig. 4 is an elevation of the rear end of the plow at the land side thereof.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 10 denotes the beam of the plow, the same being provided with handles 11 at its rear end and its front end being equipped with an adjustable clevis 12 for attachment of the draft animals.
At 13 is indicated two vertically spaced. landsides, each having a rearward extension 14. The landsides are connected by a web 15 and from one side of the same extends a double mold-board 16. From the back of the mold-board project, rearward, shoes 16 located, respectively, on the same levelas the extensions 14. The mold-board and the parts associated therewith are rotatable in a horizontal plane so that the plow may throw to the left or to the right.
()n the bottom of the beam. 10 are ears 17 to which is hinged, as indicated at 18, a hanger 19 which extends downward and has its lower extremity bifurcated, as indicated at 20. A lug or knuckle 21 on the land side of the web 15, midway between the landsides 13, fits between the bifurcations 20 and a pin 22 passingthrough said parts provides the pivotal support of the moldboard 16 and its associate parts. The hanger 19 is hinged at its rear end, and at its forward end it has an upstanding stem Specification of Letters Patent.

23 which passes loosely through a vertical aperture 24- in the beam 10 and rises a short dis ta nee therefrom.
To a suitable support 25 on top of the beam 10 is fulcrumed, as indicated at 26, one end of a hand-lever 27 which extends rearward and terminates between the barn dles 1]. Tntern'iediate its ends, the hand lever carries a vertical stem 28 which passes loosely through an aperture in the beam 10, and has at its lower end, below said beam, a cross-bar 29 provided with a pair of laterally spaced bottom notches 30. Between the cross-bar 29 and the bottom of the beam 10, a spring 3] is coiled around the stem 28, which spring tends to urge the stem, and the cross-bar carried thereby, down ward. These parts form a latch for locking the mold-board 16 and its associate parts in adjusted position. The notches 30 are on opposite sides of the beam 10, and are cngageable by either one of the parts 14 for the purpose stated. Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings shows the mold-board set to throw to the left of the beam 10, hence the part 14;, which is now at the top of the moldboard, engages the left notch. When the mold-board is reversed to throw to the right, the part 14;, which is now at the top, seats in the right notch. It will therefore be evi dent that the mold-board and its associate parts are securely locked in either position, and to unlock the same it is necessary only to lift the latch, which is done by swinging the hand-lever '27 upward. The ends of the cross-bar 29 are beveled so that the latch may snap into holding position.
The hinge connection 18 permits the parts carried by the hanger 19 to be lowered to re ulate the depth of the plow, this adjust ment being effected by means of a hand'lever 32 carried by the beam 1.0 and connected by a coiled spring 33 to one end of a lever 34 pivoted at its other end to the support 25, and pivotally connected at 35, intermediate its ends, to the upper end of the stem 23. Upon swinging the hand-lever 32 forward, the hanger 19 tilts downward and forward, thereby tilting the plow point correspond-- ingly. The resilient connection 33 allows the plow to yield to clear obstructions. The beam 10 also carries a rolling colter 36 operating in the ordinary manner.
By the structure herein described a double and reversible plow is had, the groundengaging parts being duplicated on diametrically opposite sides of the pivot 22, so that either part may be'put-in position for use. It is therefore possible to reverse the plow at the end of the furrow and return alongside the same. The-web 15 'andthe top landside '13 bear against one side of the hanger 19, which, withithe latch, firmly holds the plow in adjusted position, the hanger effectually serving to sustain the side thrust.
I claim: t v
1. A plow comprising a beam,,;a hanger depending from the beam, vertically spaced landsides, a web connecting the landsides, a double mold board extending from the land sides and the web, and a horizontal pivotal connection between the hanger and the web midway between the landsides, topermit reversal of the lilllClSlClQS and the .moldboard, the web and uppermost landside hearing against one side of the hanger.
2.,A plow comprising a (beam, a hanger pivoted to the beam to tilt forward and downward, and'a reversible mold-board and associate parts carried by thelhanger.
3. plow comprising a beam, a hanger pivoted to the beam to tilt forward and downward, a reversible mold-board and associate parts carried by the hanger, a vertical stem rising from the hanger, the beam having anraperture through which said stem downward, a reversible mold-board and as sociate parts carriedby the hanger, a vertical stem rising from the hanger, the beam having an aperture through which said stem passes, va lever pivotedtothe upper end of thestem, a hand-leverearried by the beam, and a resilient connection between said levers.
5. A plow comprising a beam, a hanger carried by the beam, and,a double moldboard and associate parts pivoted to the bottom of the hanger to swing in a vertical plane and come against either side of the hanger, said mold-board and associate parts being duplicated on diametrically opposite sides of'the pivot. w
