Description

$.15. RoLLlNs.
Bur Mill.
No. 109,841. .Patented Dec. 6, 1870.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.'
SAMUEL G. ROLLINS, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO VVIGG, ROLLINS & OO., OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN ABURR-MILLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 109,841, dated December (i, 1870; nntedated November 30, 1870.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, S. G. RoLLINs, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Burr-Mills, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of my invention consists in combining an adjusting device for the lower millstone with a cylindrical casing for the lower gearing, the object being to provide a simple and convenient mode of adjusting and supporting the stone, and also to protect the drivinggearing.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a perspective View of my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of the same.
I construct my invention as follows:
H and H represent the upper and lower millstones, the upper stone, H, being propelled in the usual manner by the shaft S. The lower end of the shaft S rests in a step upon the lever V, Fig.- l, and is adjusted in the usual manner by the screw-bolt I. The upper end of the shaft S is held by means of the pivot s, attached to the arch R, as shown.
Fand F, Fig. 1, represent the driving-pulley and idler.
W', Fig. 2, represents a beveled gear, which is driven by the shaft K, Fig. l, and which meshes into the beveled gearW, which, acting through the shaft` S, propels the lupper millstone.
The casing D D is provided with an annular offset or shoulder, d e E, Fig. 2. Into this offset the upper millstone sits, the millstone being adjusted laterally with the screws T T.
O is a metallic burr, made fast to the shaft S, and provided with spiral grooves and ridges, as shown, so that as it revolves it will, in connection with the casing or lower part of the SAMUEL G. ROLLINS.
