CHILD S GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 5, 1914.
Application filed January 27, 1913. Serial No. 744,321.
- the trousers are attached.
In accordance with my invention I make the waist in two parts which are separable from each other, to wit: a front part anda rear-part. The front part is sewed at its lower end to the front portion of the waist band of the trousers and is thus permanently secured to the trousers. The rear part 'is provided with shoulder straps which pass over the shoulders of the child and button onto the front part, and is also provided with buttons for buttoning it to the rear portion of the trousers. This construction has the advantage that the rear part of the waist can be removed when the garmentis to be laundried, thus making the washing and ironing of the garment very much simpler than if the waist was in one piece and permanently secured to the trousers.
Referring to the drawings wherein I have illustrated my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the back side of a garment embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the back portion of the waist removed; Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the garment with the back side of the waist removed.
In the drawings, 3 designates the trousers portion of the garment which is made in usual way with the side openings 4 to provide the rear flap 5 which is buttoned to the waist. The waist portion of my improved garment is made to present the front part 6 and the rear part 7 The front part 6 is sewed to the front portion of the trousers 3 and thus is permanently secured to the trousers. This front portion of the waist is formed with the two side extensions 8 at its lower end so that the bottom edge 9 of said front is of a length equal to the distance between the side openings 4 of the trousers as measured on the front waist band. The lower edge of the waist section 6 1s sewed to the trousers 4 by suitable stitching 10. The space above the extensions 8 of the waist provide for the arms of the wearer.
The rear portion 7 of the waist is provided at its upper end with the shoulder straps 11 which pass over the shoulders of the wearer and are buttoned to the upper edge of the front 6. I preferably provide each shoulder strap with a plurality of button holes 12 and the front portion 6 is provided with buttons 13 for the buttonholes. Means are provided for detachably securing the lower corners of the back 7 to the extensions 8 of the waist, and also for detachably connecting the flap 5 of the trousers to the back portion 7. I will pref erably accomplish this by providing the extensions 8 with buttons 15 and by making cooperating buttonholes 14 in the lower corners of the back 7. The back 7 is also provided with buttons 16 which cooperate with buttonholes 17 formed in the top of the flap 5. The end buttonholes 18 of the flap are to be buttoned onto the buttons 15 of the waist extension. The back 7 is also preferably provided with other buttons 19 to which under drawers may be secured, and the front of the waist has secured to its lower edge a tab 20 carrying a button 21 to which the front of the drawers can be fastened.
22 designate tabs which are sewed to the lower end ofthe waist and to which the hose supporters are connected. By means of this construction it will be seen that the back portion of the waist can be entirely removed and that when this is done the front portion of the waist and the trousers form a garment which is very easily laundried, for the front of the waist can be laid flat on the ironing-board and there is no careful manipulation of the waist required in properly ironing it, as is the case with the ordinary waist. Further, the back portion 7 of the waist when removed is a perfectly flat article which presents no difliculties whatever in laundrying. Y
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A childs garment comprising a trouser portion and a waist portion, said waist portion being made to present separate front and rear sections, the front section having side extensions 8 at its lower edge and being permanently secured to the front of the trousers and the back section having shoulder straps which are buttoned to the front section, means for detachably fastening the lower corners of the back section to the side extensions of the front section, and the back of the trousers to the back of the rear section, supporting tabs secured to the lower edge of the front of the waist portion at its juncture with the trouser portion and means on the lower edge of the back of the waist portion for attachment to the nether garment of the wearer.
In testimony; whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
