IApplicare@ med January 27, 191s. seal m. 744,570.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONIO BoNGIo- VANNI, a citizen of the United States, resid'- ing at Barnesboro, in the count-y of Cambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew and useful Razor-Cleaning Attachment for Barbers Chairs, of which'the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in razor cleaning attachments for barbers chairs.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of razor cleaning attachments for barbers chairs, more especially that shown and described in Patent No. 1,089,311, dated March 3, 1914, and to provide-a simple, inexpensive .and efficient razor cleaning attachment, adapted to present a-neat and attractive appearance, and equipped with an adjustable mirror and with means for holding an antiseptic for sterilizing razors, and provided also with fa receptacle adapted to receive the lathe wiped from a razor.
A further object of the invention is to provide a lather receptacle adapted to be easily and quickly applied to and removed from the attachment, so that the same will be provided with a clean sanitary cup for each customer and having a yieldable wiping surface, which will not injure the edge of a razor or affect the keenness thereof. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; 1t being understood that various changes inthe form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacricing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective View of a razor cleaning attachment, constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the upper portion of the attachment, the mirror arm being swung forward to a position at right angles to the receptacle supporting arm and the section being taken longitudinally of the receptacle supporting arm and passing transversely through the mirror supporting arm. Fig. 3 is a detail view, illustrating the manner of mounting the adjustable mirror. Fig; t is a detail perspeotive View of the upper end of the standard.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of .the drawing. In the accompan ing drawi ,in which is illustrated the pre erred embo iment of the invention, 1 designates a standard constructed of any suitable material preferably metal,
and designed to be finished in any suitable 1 manner, and having its lower portion 2 curved and arranged at a slight inclination to offset a lower integral terminal attaching portion Blfrom the vertical plane of the body portion of the standard 1. The lower terminal attaching portion 3 is preferably in the form of a plate, tapered, as shown, andprovided with perforations 4 for the reception of screws, or other suitable fastening devices for securing the standard to any convenient ortion of a barbers chair.
The stan ard 1, which is preferably semitubular to secure strength and lightness and to present a rounded outer surface, is provided at its upper end with an integral' circular head 5, provided with a central opening 6 in which is fixed a vertical ypivot 7 having a threaded upper portion 8' for the reception of a thumb nut 9 for securing a horizontal receptacle supporting arm 10, and a mirror supporting arm 11 on the pivot. The horizontal varm 10, which is constructed of suitable metal, is provided, at its inner end with a perforation 12 to receive the pivot, and it is arranged upon the head 5, which is provided at its upper face with an annular series of radially arranged ribs 13, presenting a rough surface to the lower face of the inner end of the receptacle supporting arm and adapted to retain the same in its pivotal adjustment, the arm 10 being adapted to be swung around the pivot 12- to any desired positionto suit the convenience of the barber and to arrange it out of the way while the barber is cutting hair, shamhead 5. The parts may .be positively-held in any adjustment by tlghtening the thumb nut 9.
The horizontal arm 10 is provided at its .y
receiving cup 16. The terminal. ring-shaped portion 15 has downwardly and inwardly ta-v pered sides, and the shallow cup or receptacle 16 is correspondingly tapered and extends slightly below the lower edge of the ringshaped portion. The cup or receptacle 16, which is preferably constructed of rubber, is provided at its upper edge with an outwardly extending annular flange 1i", resting upon the upper edge of the ring-shaped portion and supported by the same and rounded at its upper face 18 to present a yieldable wiping edge to a razor. The terminal ring-shaped portion besides supporting the cup stitt'ens the yieldable projecting annular i'lange 17 suiiciently to enable razors to be wiped across the rounded upper face of the flange without materially indenting the Hange. By this construction, the cup may be constructed of soft rubber, or other suitable material, and there will be no liability of accidentally cutting the same in wiping a razor thereon. The lather falls into the cup or receptacle when the blade ot a razor is wiped across the flange 1T, and the shallow receptacle is adapted to be readily placed in and removed from the supporting arm, so as to be readily cleaned and sterilized after each shaving operation,y thereby insuring a clean sanitary lather cup for each customer. The receptacle supporting arm is also provided at a point intermediate of its ends with a rectangular opening 19 formed in an enlarged portion 2O of the arm 10 adjacent to the inner end thereof, and receiving an antiseptic receptacle 21. The receptacle 21, which extends above and below the arm 10, is rectangular in cross section and is designed to be of a suiicient'length to receive the cutting portion of the blade of a razor, and it is adapted to contain liquid or other disinfectant 'for sterilizing razors. For this purpose, it is preferably equipped with a removable glass vessel 22, conforming to the configuration of. the interior of the receptacle 21 'and adapted to be readily taken from and replaced therein for cleaning or other purposes. The exterior of the receptacle 21 is preferably provided at an intermediate point between its top and bottom with a slightly tapered portion 23, presenting downwardly and inwardly inclined fares to the walls ot' the opening 19, which weils are correspondingly inclined to form a seat for the said receptacle 22. Any other suitable means, however, niay be employed for supporting the antiseptic receptacle within the opening of the arm 10. The antiseptic receptacle is preferably equipped with a horizontal cover 2:1, provided at one of its corners with a projecting ear 25, pierced by a vertical pivot screw 2G, which is mounted in an enlargement 27 of the receptacle 22.
The mirror supporting arm 11, which is composed of upper and lower substantially vertical portions and an intermediate horizontal connecting portion, is provided at its lower end with a projecting ear 28 having an opening for the reception of the vertical pivot 12, and reduced at its lower face at 29 to tit in a recess 30 in the upper tace of the pivoted end of the horizontal arm 10, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the dra-wing. The upper vertical portion of the arm 11 extends through an opening 31 in a projecting lug or portion 32 extending centrally from the back of a mirror 33 and having a set screw 34 for engaging the arm 11 to secure the mirror in any adjustment. The lower verti cal portion is of a length to-eXtend above the top of the antiseptic receptacle, so that the mirror supporting arm will swing clear of the same in the adjustment of the mirror. The mirror, which may be of any preferred construction, is adjustable vertically on the standard, and is adapted to swing around the same and it may be arranged in various positions to enable itto be adjusted, after a hair. cutting operation, to permit the customer to view the back of his head and there by obviate the necessity of the barber holding a mirror, which is the usual custom in barber shops. The pivoted screw and the thumb nut form a detachable connection be tween the mirror supporting arm and the standard, and the mirror may be removed from the attachment when desired.
