DEVICE FOR MAKING SYRUP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 28, 1918. Serial No. 776,348.
To all 'wlzomlit may concern Be .it known that I, Josnru KAUruu, a-
This invention relates to devices for mak- 1'0 ing syrup and it relates particularly to a device for making what is usually termed simple syrup, whichis produced by the dissolution of sugar by subjectin'g it to the actionof water which percolates' the mass- 15 of sugar suspended or supported in an ap propriate manner to permit the passage of the syrup through the said support.
A further object'of this invention is toproduce a device of the character indicated, comprising parts readily dls'mantled or as sembled for the purpose of cleansing the saidparts and forthe further purpose of loading or applying the sugar and water to the same. i A still further object of this invention is to provide a device of the character stated comprising a series of means for arresting foreign substances which maybe found in the sugar or in the water, thus producing a 80 clear, pure syrup for use in connection with charged waters and the like.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combinationof parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed. In describing the invention in detail, ref-. erence will be "had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification i0 wherein like characters denote corresponding' parts in the several views, and .in wl1ich- Figure 1 illustrates a vertical sectional view of the device embodying the inyerlfi-tion; Fig. 2 illustrates a view in elevation thereof; Fig. 3 illustrates a sectional View corresponding to the line 33 of Fig. 1;
and F ig. 4 illustrates a section corresponding to the line H of Fig. 1. i
In these drawings 5 denotes the syrup receptacle having'l'egs and a faucet '7- for drawing the syrup from the said receptacle.
Interlorly of the receptacle, I provide series of brackets 7 which are secured to the inner wall thereof, said brackets being on different planes so that they may.sup-' port the strainers-'8, one above the other, -it being understood that the said strainers 8.
each'comprise a rim 9 provided with notches 10 spaced .apart a distance equal to the spaces between the brackets in order that therecesses or notches-will; register with the brackets when thestrainers-are applied to or removed from the receptacle,' itbeing understood that slightly turning the strainer sothattherimsfthereo-f rest on the brackets, the strainer may besuspended or supported within the receptacle.
. Associated with the receptacle 5 is' a cylindrical section 11' whichis connected to the said receptacle by thehinge 12, the said cylindrical section being reduced at its lower edge to-forin the flange 13 fitting-within the said receptacle whereas the external shoulder 1 L formed by the protection of the flange rests on the upper edge of'the re ceptacle and the internal shoulder 15 serves as a support for a strainer 16 which is carriedby the cylindrical, section as the same is movechfrom a position on the receptacle to the position shown in dotted lines, due
to the hinge between the said section. and the receptacle. -I
The cylindrical section heretofore mentioned is further associated with a cover comprising a removable top 17 having at or near its edges the concentric slightly separated flanges 18, which form a channel 19 for the reception of the upper edge of the verticalportion of the cover, the said vertical portion having its lower edge extending around and below the upper edge of-ihe cylindrical section. As shown in the drawing, the cover has a hinge 20 by which it is movably connected to the cylindrical scc- Patented Apr. 2-8, 1914.
tion tovthe interior of'thevcover and the v strainer 21'for straining the water supplied for dissolvingflthe sugar in producing the syrup. The strainer-or screen which is sup ported above the cylindrical section acts as a shelf for containing sugar to be dissolved whereas water is applied to the cover by re moving the top and passes through the screen to the bed of sugar supported onthe said shelf or screen, said. water dissolving the sugar and percolating therethrough to produce syrup which syrup is further strained during its passage through the succesaive strainers contained within the receptac e.
It is obvious that by reason of the plurality of strainers and provision for arresting foreign substances, the resilient syrup is free of such foreign substances; furthermore the provision that has been made for cleansing and removing deposits of foreign substances from the strainer assures a sanitary and highly eiiicient device for accom plishing the result indicated. By removing the top, the upper surface of the Water strainer may be cleansed whereby by hinging the cover, access to the under surface of the said water screen may be had for the purpose of removing any deposits therefrom, whereas the same movement of the cover gives access to-theup per surface of the sieve or strainer for supporting the sugar and by reason of the presence of the hinge for the cylindrical section, access may be noaaeeo In a device for producing syrup, a receptacle, series of brackets arranged in different planes within the said receptacle, strainers comprising rims having recesses coinciding with the brackets, a perforated concaved central portion through which the syrup is strained, a cylindrical section having a flange at its lower edge fitting within the receptacle, external and internal shoulders on the said section, the former of which is supported by the upper edge of the receptacle, a strainer supported by the internal shoal-- der of the. said section for containing sugar, 21 cover comprising a top having concentric flanges spaced apart to form a channel therebetween and a vertical portion fitting in the said channel, the said vertical portion fitting the cylindrical section and forming a closure therefor, means for hinging the cylindrical section to the receptacle, and means for hinging the cover to the said section.
In testimony whereof, I ailix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
