IRONING-BOARD.
noaaeaa I Application filed March 23', 1912. Serial No. 685.395.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, YlhLLIAn R. JACOBS, citizen of the United States, residing at Commerce, in the county of Hunt and State f have invented a new and useful :fective manner.
The invention consists of certain instrunientalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the claim hereto appended.
in the accompanying drawing, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention wherein, it will be understood that vari-l ous changes and modifications may be made vice.
as to the detailed construction and arrange 11191111101 the parts without departing from thespirit thereof.
l igure 1 is an elevational view of the de- Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the a2 .22 of Fig. 1, viewing downwardly.
line
. Fig. 1 is a fragmentary sectional view, showingmore particularly the tenon and socket or mortise like connection between one end or" the underneath shelf and the front leg or standard of the device. Fig. 5 is a collapsed or folded view of the contrivance. Fig. (3 is. a section taken on the line y-y of Fig. 1. Figs. 7 and 8 are detail views illustrating the hinge connections of the shelf and 5 treadle respectively to the folding structure.
' lin putting my invention into practice, I provide a board or table 10f preferred or convenient construction and suitably supported in elevated position, preferably upon three standards or legs 2 and 3 respectively, the standards or legs 2 and 3 being preferably pivoted in position to allow of the fold.- ing or collapsing thereof.
The board or table 1 has an aperture 4c in .one end to receive a projection 5 upon the upper end of the standard or leg 3, and has Specification of Letters Patent.
. ard or leg Patented Apr. a, 1914i.
secured thereto at, or near, its opposite end, upon the underside a transverse bar 6, as seen in Fig. (3, the same tern'iinating in end trunnion-like projectioi'is or pivots 7 received within sockets or seats 8 preferably formed in'eulargemcnts of the upper ends of the legs or standards 2, one of these standards having fixed thereto at its upper end, a sad iron stand or support 9. Thus applying or securing the table or board 1 in place allows of its ready removal and replacement according to circumstances or requirements.
The standards or legs 2 and 3 are pivoted in position between, and upon the two converging base-members 10, the forward stand 8 itself terminating at its lower end in a cross bar or foot 11, adapted to rest upon the floor, the other legs or standards 2, which are devoid of transverse feet-fornr ing portions as characterize the leg 3, receive trunnion-like projections or tenons of a rung or cross bar 12, said projections passing looselythrough said longitudinal members 10, near their rear ends. The pivotal connection between the opposite ends of said longitudinal members 10 and the leg 3 is preferably effected by a pin or pivot 13 inserted transversely thercthrough. I
A shelf 14, which may be a plain board,. for forming a convenient support for a (lamp cloth or other object, is hinged as at 14 near one end to a cross, or rung-like,
.bar 15 secured to, and between the-legs or standards 2 near their upper ends, the op posite end of said sheltforming board having a tenon 16 thereon received bv a socket 17 in the standard or leg 3. A hook and staple connection is employed for the suitable retention of the tenon 16 in its socket 17 in the leg 3, the hook, designated as 18, being connected to the shelf or board 14 and the staple, designated as 19, being secured to said leg.
A diagonal brace 20 is hinged as at 20 at one end, to the board or shelf 1% upon its underside, near one end, the opposite end of said brace having a tenon 2-1 thereon, received by a socket 22. A. hook and staple connection is also provided between the brace 20 and the leg or standard 3, for the retention of the tenon. 21 in its socket, the hook, designated as 23, being connected to the brace and the staple, designated as 24, being secured to said leg.
Super-posed with respect to the ironing denting the upper surface of a stub-like portion or extension 29 of the sleeve-board and caught over the less cross sectional .portion of a stepped extension 30 of the board 1, the shoulder formed by the major cross section of said stepped extension servfing to limit the movement of said link or frame inwardly. This arrangement allows of the ready application of the sleeve-board to position upon the board 1, and its ready removal therefrom, when not needed for use. a
A treadle, including a lever 31, is suitably hinged or fulcrumed as at 32 from the rung or cross bar '12, between the legs 2, one end of saidlever having preferably stiff-Wire connection 33, through a staple 34,- witli the board 1, said staple being secured to, and dependingfrom the extension '30 of said board and said connection 33 being-hooked into .saidstaple as at 35', allowing of the ready detachment of the wire connection from said board or rather its staple. The opposite end of the lever 31 is suspended by a link-connection 36' from a foot-actuated member 37 suitably fulbe readily collapsed or folded when not needed for. immediate use and be converiently stored out of the way, also that they may be shipped with advantage and facilityw What is claimed is: A device of the character described, including a folding structure, and means for holding the same. extended, including a shelf having one end hingedly connected to the structure, cooperating means carried by the otherend of the shelf and the adjacent portion of the structure to dctachably hold the shelf elevated, a brace having one end hingedly connected to theunder side ot the shelf adjacent the hinged connection of the shelf to the folding structure, and cooperating means carried by the free end of the brace and the adjacent portion of the structure to detacliably hold the brace in opera.- tive position.
Intestimo-ny that I claim the foregoing as my own, I havehereto atlixed my signa ture in the presence of two witnesses.
