ENQIL-HQPPEB- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 15, 1913.
Patented Apr. *7, 1914.
Serial No. 748,711.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAJA C. MATHIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Florence, in the county of Burlington and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pencil-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pencil holders and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device of this character constructed so as to be capable of holding a plurality of pencils and provided with a disinfecting tablet or pad through which the pencil points project.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a removable part supported in such position as to receive and permit the passage of the pencil points and having a disinfectant receptacle adapted to contain disinfectant in which the pad may be immersed.
Further objects of this invention will ap pear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a detail vertical sectional view therethrough. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the pencil and pad supporting tray.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the top and side members 1 and 2 are constructed of a single sheet of material bent into U form as shown in Fig. 1, the side members having depending legs 3 upon which the device is supported. The side member 2 is provided with apertures or slots 4 through which the tongues 5 project, these tongues 5 are formed integrally with the combined pad and pencil supporting tray 6 which is constructed of a single sheet of material and is provided with side flanges 7 notched at 8 to permit the convenient removal of the pad 9. The pad 9 is prefer ably formed of clay or other similar material and is provided with a plurality of tapered apertures 10 adapted to receive the pencil point and to register with apertures 11 formed in the tray. It will be noticed that the apertures in the tray are of such dimensions as to receive the projecting lead of the pencil and that the apertures 10 in the pad are of such diameter as to prevent contact of the pad with the pencil. The top 1 in this instance is provided with a plurality of apertures 12 which are alined with the apertures 10 and 11 in the pad and tray respectively and servev as guides for guiding the pencil into the apertures 11, Each aperture 12 is suitably numbered as shown so that the pencil of different parties may be readily identified.
Secured to the legs 3 on the inner side thereof are supporting brackets 13 upon which a tray 14 is removably mounted, said tray being adapted to carry a suitable disinfectant in which the clay pad 9 may be dipped or immersed to permit absorption of the disinfectant.
What is claimed is K 1. A pencil holder comprising a frame consisting of an apertured top supported on side members, an apertured pencil supporting tray carried beneath the top, and an apertured disinfectin pad mounted on the tray.
2. A pencil holder comprising an elevated apertured top, an apertured pencil supporting tray arranged beneath the top and having notched sides, and an apertured disinfecting pad mounted on the tray and exposed at the notches.
3. A pencil holder comprising an elevated and apertured top, an apertured pencil supporting tray arranged beneath the top and separated therefrom an apertured disinfecting pad carried on the tray and having its apertures therein in alinement with the apertures in the top and the tray to receive the pencil.
4. A pencil holder comprising an elevated top having apertures therein a pad supporting tray arranged below the top and having relatively small apertures therein, and a disinfecting pad having relatively large apertures therein arranged in alinement with the apertures in the top and the tray.
.5. -A pencil holder comprising an elevated the member and tray and adapted to permit and apertured member, a rigidly mounted the passage of a pencil point. 10 pencil supporting tray arranged below said In testimony whereof I aflix my signature member and having relatively small aperin presence of two witnesses.
5 tures alined within the apertures in the MAJA C. MATHIS.
member, and a disinfecting pad removably Witnesses: mounted on the tray and having relatively Goonwm DONNELLY, large apertures alined with the apertures in VALTERSGULLY,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of latents.
