To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOHN MAsERANma citizen of the United States, and a resident of St.. Louis, in t-he State of Missouri,have
made certain new and useful Improvements in Straw-Stackers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in straw stackers, and has for its object to provide a stacker of the blower type, wherein mechanism is provided in connection with the stacker for permitting straw as it issues from the stacker to be directed to any part ot' the stack, the said means being operated from the threshing machine.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side view of a stacker provided with the improved deiecting device, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the deliecting device proper, and Fig. 3 isa similar view of a modified construction.
The present embodiment of the invention is shown in connection with a threshing machine 1 of ordinary type, having at its rear end a pipe 2, connected with the blower, for
I delivering a blast of air through the said pipe. The upper end of the pipe 2 is laterally anged, as shown at 3, and an elbow 4- provided with a similar ange 5 is connected with the said pipe 2, the elbow being mounted to rotate on the pipe 2. The other end of the elbow 4 is connected to the delivery pipe 6 in the usual manner, and the straw as it issues from the thresher is discharged by a blast of air from the blower through the pipe 6.
The deliector comprises an angle plate, consisting of integral portions 7 and 8, arranged at slightly less than a right angle with respect to each other, and while the portion 7 is approximately rectangular 'm shape, the portion 8 is approximately triangular in shape.
A Y-shape-d bracket is connected with the portion 8 of the angle plate, the said bracket comprising a stem or body portion 9 and arms 10 diverging from each other toward their free end, and the free end of each arm is provided with an inwardly extending bearing lug or journal pin 11.
The stem 9 of the bracket is provided with a iattened extension 12, and the said extension is secured to the outer face of the portion 8 of angle plate, by means of rivets 13, the extension being arranged approximately perpendicular to the junction line between theportions 8 and 9. Near its outer end the pipe 6 is pro-vided with bearings 14, and the journal pins 11 of the bracket are received in the said bearing. Thus, the bracket is pivoted to the pipe 6 for swinging movement on a horizont-al axis transverse to the pipe 6. The bracket is provided with a perforated lug 15 on its upper face, and at the junction ot the arms 10 with the body, and a link 16 has one of its ends connected with the said lug. A lever 17 is pivoted at 18 to a toothed segment 19, secured to the pipe 6 on its upper face, and at its junction with the elbow 4, and the said lever is provided with the usual lat-ch mechanism 20, coperating with the teeth of the segment, to hold the lever in adjusted position. The link 16 passes over a pulley 21 journaled in a bearing standard'22'on the pipe 6, and intermediate its ends, to a connection with the lever.
The bracket holds the angle plate with the portion 8 thereof in approximately parallelism with the axis of the pipe 6, and with the portion 7 of the plate approximately perpendicular to the said axis. When the S0 latch mechanism of the lever 17 is released, the lever may be swung to raise or lower the outer end of the bracket and the angle plate, to incline the portion 7 of the angle plate with respect to the said axis, to a greater or less degree. As the straw is discharged vfrom the pipe 6, it will impinge against the inner tace of the portion 7 of the angle plate, and will be deflected downwardly onto the stack, instead of being blown over the stack, as is frequently the case.
It has been found impossible to use a deflecting pipe or nozzle at the end of the discharge pipe, for the reason that the straw and chaff become blocked or choked at the angle of the said nozzle or pipe. With the improved delector, however, there is no danger of choking or blocking since the straw may fall freely from the said plate on to the stack.
By moving the discharge pipe 6 to different parts of the stack, the straw may be dropped wherever desired, and the stack may be built up without the assistance of any one on the stack to move the straw where desired.
The portion 7 of the angle plate is also provided with flanges 2li at its side edges, or with braces 25, arranged between the said portion and the portion 8, as shown in F ig. 3. The flanges prevent the straw from flying out at the edges of the portion 7, and also act as'braces, to brace the angle plate.
I claim:
1. In combination with the discharge pipe of a wind stacker, of a delecting plate, a bracket of substantially Y shape and coniprising a body and arms diverging from the body, each arm having an inwardly ext-ending journal pin at the end remote from the body, the discharge pipe having openings for receiving the journal pins, the body having an extension secured to one of the portions of the defiecting plate, a lever pivoted to the discharge pipe near the inner end thereof, and means in connection with the lever and the discharge pipe for holding the lever in adjusted position, and a connection between the lever and the body of the bracket for swinging the said bracket with respect to the axis of the discharge tube.
9,. In a device of the character speciied, an angle plate consisting of two portions arranged at an angle with respect to each other, one of the said portions being approximately rectangular and the other porthe rectangular portion in front of the outy letvof the discharge pipe of a wind stacker.
3. In a device of the characterspecied, a supporting bracket Yof approximately Y shape and comprising a body and arms integral with the body and diverging from each other away from the body, each arm having an inwardly extending journal pin at its free end, said pins being in alinement and the body having a perforate lug near the junction of the arms therewith for connection with adjusted mechanism for the bracket, said body having a attened extension extending in the opposite direction from the arms and adapted for connection with a deliecting plate.
