To all 'whom it may cancer-rt Be it known that I, JOHN J. TEHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny an State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk Bottl e or Jar Protectors, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in milk bottle or jar protectors.

The main object of my invention is to provide a simple. economical, durable and efiicient device for protecting milk bottles or jars and to insure the safe delivery of milk from a milkman for family use or use of the purchaser.

Another object of this invention is to provide a device which will prevent the stealing or removal of the milk bottles or jars when in a filled or empty-condition by an unauthorized person, since the bottles or jars are only accessible to the milkman and members of the family, or the purchaser who is provided with the proper key for unlocking the device.

A further object is to furnish a milk bottle or jar protector adapted to be removably secured to a door frame, or other suitable place, by means and in such a manner that the bottle or jar cannot be detached or removed from the securing means by any one other than those authorized to deliver and receive the milk, thus preventing the filled bottles or jars from being stolen between the time that they are delivered by the dealer and the time for taking them into the house by the purchaser.

The foregoing and such other objects as may occur from the ensuing description are attained by certain features of novelty embodied in the construction, combination, arrangement and location of parts, all as fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.

In the drawings :Fig'ure 1 is a perspective view showing the novel improvements embodying my invention, and Fig. 2, is a detail perspective view showing one of the bottle or ar securing frames or clamps.

Similar characters of reference indicate the same parts in thefigures of the drawings.

The device is intended to be applied to some part of the front portion of a house or other suitable structure, or secured to the Specification of Letters Patent.

door frame, and 1 indicates one side of a door frame or other suitable fixed or irremovable support, and 2 the door sill or other suitable support on which the bottles or jars are adapted to rest.

The reference numeral 3 indicates a frame or clamp made from a single piece of stiff spring wire in the form clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawin s, said frame bein provided at one side thereof with a latera extension 4 terminating in a depending portion forming a hook member 5 which extends inward in a plane substantially parallel with the said lateral extension t, the outer ends of said frame or clamp 3 terminating with eyes or loops 6, these loops or eyes when pressed together cause the frame 3 to clamp around the neck of the bottle or jar and when caused to assume the position shown in Fig. 1, register with each other and rest one above the other leaving an opening ada ted to receive a hook member 5 of one of t e wire frames or the hasp 7 of a padlock 8.

As shown in Fig. 1, a plate 9 which carries a staple 10 is firmly secured in any suitable manner to the door frame or casing 1, said staple being adapted to receive the hook member 5 of the wire frame, and attached to the lateral extension 4 of said frame is one end of a chain 11 the other end of said chain being attached to the hasp portion 7 of the said padlock.

It will be readily perceived that when the terminal ends of the wire frame are loose a bottle or jar may be readily inserted within said frame, and when the loose ends are brought together and locked by the hooked end of one of the frames or the hasp of the padlock the frame is caused to clasp the neck of the bottle and securely hold the same within the frame, and that any suitable number of bottles or jars may be delivered by either the milkman or purchaser at one and the same time, since every bottle is securely locked to each other and cannot be removed or separated by any one but an authorized person having a proper key for unlocking the padlock.

Owing to the formation of the hooked member 5 it will be seen that said member cannot be detached from the eyes or loops 6 or the staple 10 as long as the hooks remain in the attached position shown in Fig. 1, nor can the bottles be removed or tilted sufliciently to empty their contents until the I eyes or loops are unlocked, and the frames 7 cannot be unhooked from each other until the delivery of any suita 1e or required numher of bottles, and one end of the chain may be secured to the staple 10 if desired, the householder or purchaser and the milkman both having a proper key for the look.

It will be obvious that the wire clamping frames 3 may be made of any suitable size, and adapted to properly fit varying sizes of bottles employed in the delivery of-the milk.

It will be understood that slight changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A milk bottle vprotector comprising a staple securely fastened to a suitable structure, a wire clamping frame having a lateral extension at one side thereof provided with a depending hook portion and terminal end portions, each end portion having an eye, and means forlockm'g the said end portions together.

' 2. A milk bottle protector, comprising a aoaaeea adapted to engage saidstaple and having terminal end portions provided with an eye at each end, said eyes when forced together resting one above the other in alinement and forming an opening, and a lock secured tothe said frame the hasp of said lock passing through said opening and locking together the terminal ends of the said frame.

3. A milk bottle protector comprising a staple firml secured to a door frame, a plurality 0 frame consisting of a single piece of wire having a lateral extension at one side thereof, terminating in a depending hook portion, and provided with terminal end wire clamping frames, e'ach portions, each end formed with an eye, the;

hook portion of one frame'being adapted to-E 1 engage said staple, and the ends of the frame being adapted to be locked together by the hooked end of another frame or the hasp' of a padlock, substantially as shownand described.
