Letters Patent No. 108,963, dated November 8, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN. LINIMENTS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMESO. BRANCH and HUGH I. Qunaof Washington, in the county of \Vilkes and State of Georgia, have invented a new and improved Liniment; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a liniment for curing rheumatism, neuralgia, and similar diseases, and consists in a compound prepared by combining the ingredients hereinafter mentioned, and in the manner described.
In carrying out our invention and discovery we use Lard, three pounds; rosin, one-half pound; capsicum, one-half pound; oil of cedar, two ounces; oil of sassafras, two ounces; oil of cinnamon, two ounces; chloroform, two ounces; aqua ammonia, two ounces; spirits of turpentine, one ounce; oil of spike, one-half ounce.
The above articles'are mixed together and allowed to simmer (not boil) overa slow fire for the space of ten or fifteen minutes, the compound being stirred 0r proper fi'iction, morning and evening, for a short period, when a cure is effected.
For rheumatism, neuralgia, and for the various pains and aches which afflict mankind, this linimentis a remedy.
\Ve have experimented largely with a view of discovering a remedy for rheumatism, and have accomplished our object in-the above combination of wellknowningredients. the following articles in about the proportions named,,

" We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- A liniment compound of the'above-rnentioued ingredients in the proportions and in the manneras substantially herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
