Be it known that I, THOMAS A. GEBHARDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of l-lenrico and State of Virginia, have invented new and use ul Improvements in Screen-Closures, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to screen closures for windows, doors or other similar openings and the principal object of tie invention is to improve upon the structure illustrated in my copending application Number (345,703, which was filed August 24, 1911.. in this application an exit was so formed in the frame as to permit the flies to escape but no means was provided for reinforcing the fabric supporting strip which extended across the frame at the exit opening.

It is further object of this invention to avoid this difficulty and to also provide a screen in which the fabric is secured to the frame without fastening devices, such as tacks, screws, and the like, or in other words, so that when the retaining strips are removed, the fabric may be taken out and discarded and a new piece of fabric inserted and secured. in the frame without tacking the same.

Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which 1 Figure l is an outside elevation. Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents a frame which is con structed, as is usual, of the vertical stiles 2 and the top and bottom rails 3 and 4t. Each of the vertical stiles and the bottom rail f is provided with a rabbet- 5 having a depending groove (3 in its base which is adapt ed to receive the screen fabric '7. The two sides and the bottom of the screen fabric are secured in this groove and in the rabbet by means of retaining strips 8 which are provided with ribs 9 to enter and force the fabric into the groove.

What is claimed is in combination a rectangular frame, one end of said frame having a portion beveled inwardly and rearwardly whereby a recess is formed, the opposite end of said frame being formed with a transverselyextending rabbetcd portion terminating in a rightangular recess, a foraminous sheeting hav ing one end completely overlying the edges of said recess and rabbeted portion, an L- shaped strip seated in said recess and rabbeted portion whereby said sheeting is held in firm position, a relatively narrow strip spanning said first-named recess and being secured at its ends to said frame, a ifshaged metallic member secured alongside of said strip throughout its length and having its folds arranged close together, said sheeting having its free end disposed between said folds and overlying said U-shaped member, said strip being spaced from said beveled portion, tubular spacing, men'iber interposed between said U-shaped member and said beveled portion, and a screw passing through said strip, doubly through said sheeting, into said spacingmember and terminat 152, in said frame.
