To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HAROLD M. COREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Somerton, in the county of Yuma, State of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hames; and I do hereby declare the following tobe 'a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to hames, and has for an object to provide a device of this character which may be adjusted to comfortably fit the horses neck and will readily yield to the working of the neck muscles.

l/Vith the above object in view, the inven tion consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the hame. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the hame. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 33 Fig. 1. Fig. a is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 41 Fig. 1.

Referring now to the drawings in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, 10 designates spaced straight side stocks to which are riveted or otherwise fixed metal straps 11 which extend longitudinally of the stocks and project beyond both ends of the same. A telescoping bridge member 12 connects the upper ends of the straps, the same comprising a tube 13 which is pivotally secured at one end by means of a pivot pin 14 to one of the straps, and a rod 15 which is slidably fitted in the tube and is pivotally connected at its outer end by means of a pivot pin 16 to the other strap.

The lower end of each strap 11 is equipped with a tubular bearing 17 in which a pin 18 is journaled for rotation, the lower end of the pin being formed with an eye 19, and a cotter pin 20 being passed through the upper end of the pin and bearing upon the tubular bearing to retain the pin in position. A flexible leather strap 21 is passed through the eyes 19 of both pins and the ends of the Specification of Letters Patent.

For limiting spreading apart of the upper ends of the stocks 10 the outer ends of flexible leather straps 23 are secured to the top edges of the stocks, and the inner ends of the straps are adjustably secured together by means of a buckle 24. A collar shield 25 formed preferably of leather is secured at one end to the top edge of one of the stocks and projects underneath the straps 24 toward the opposite stock.

The straps 11 are equipped near the upper ends with rein rings 26, and are further equipped near the lower ends with hoops 27 to receive the trace chains.

By virtue of the telescoping bridge member 12 the upper ends of the chain stocks may move toward and away from each other, and since this member is pivoted at the ends to the stock straps 11, both stocks may movevertically relatively to each other. Furthermore, by virture of the pins 18 being revolubly secured to the eyes 17 of the stock straps, both members may swing forwardly or rearwardly to a slight extent without disturbing the position of the strap 21 on the horse collar. By virtue of these aggregate movements which the hames are capable of, the hames comfortably fit and adjust themselves automatically to movement of the neck muscles.

What is claimed is:

A combined collar and hame including spaced side stocks, a strap secured longitudinally to each stock, each strap having a tubular upright bearing offset from the bottom of the outer face, substantially L-shaped pins each having an upright leg revolubly secured in one of said tubular bearings, and each having a lateral leg fashioned to produce an eye, a strap connecting said eyes and thereby securing the lower ends of said stocks together, and means for yieldably securing the upper ends of said stocks together.
