RESliLIENT WHEEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 10, 1914.
Application filed July 28, 1913. Serial No. 781,674.
.T all 1157mm it may concern: lie it known that I, Gnovnn C. Moons, a citizen of the l mited States, residing at Campton, in thecounty of \Valton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Resilient \Vheels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a t'ulh clear. and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanviirt, drawincsand to the letters and, figures of referencemarked thereon. which form :1. part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in resilient wheels and comprises a simple and efiicient device of this naturehaving various details of construction and combinatimis and Tangements of parts which will he hereinafter fully de= scribed, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. in which Figure l is a side elevation of a whee made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. is a detail perspective view of one of the resilient spokes. Fig, l is a perspective view of the hub showing a drum connected thereto, and Fig. 5 is a face view'ot' one of the. hub sections.
ed to clanm the opposite inclined faces C of the solid tire I) and said rings are provided with s ries of lugs A? projecting therefrom at intervals and each is a-pertured, the lugs arranged in pairs and adaptedto receive thebolts E. The spokes are constructed of resilientmetal, the outer end otveach being turned to form a roll and engaging one of said'bolts upon which it has a pivotal connection. The huh is made up of two complemental sections. designated respectively by letters I and K,- and each is provided upon its inner face with a series of radial slots L which are preferabl triangular in cross section and tern'iinate lilindly at their, inner ends,-\vhile their outer ends have con-f tracted slotted portions N loading through the circumference of the sections. Said hub Sections arccenlrally apertured for the re- "ception of the axle L and to one of said ali'orded whereby sntticient resiliency is obtained in the springs to take up the vibrations necessary in running gear of automobiles a well as additional resiliency which is afforded by the rubber tire. By the particular construction shown, the spokes, it will l)G-Xl()i0(l. will be interchangeable as well as the tire, the parts being readily replaced when desired for any purpose. \Yhat claim to be new is: i A resilient wheel comprising a rim, two disks having central registering apertures and series of registering slots in the adja- .cent faces of said disks-theinner ends of said slots terminating within slight distances-from the marginal edges of said aper'tures, said slots being substantially shaped in cross section and provided with shoulders positioned short distances from the peripheries of the disks, said slots being contracted interniediatethe shoulders and the circumferences of the disks with one wal of the contracted part of each slot flush with the wall of the latter, resilient spokes, an elongated lug upon each spoke at one end thereof and having its outer face angled. sa'id lug being adapted to conform to and engage registering slots in the two disks and hearing at its outer end'aga-inst two of said shoulders, while the shank portion of the spoke passes through the contracted portion of the slots and is held by the opposite parallel walls thereof and engaging the rim at their outer ends, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto atfix my signature in, presence of two witnesses.
GROVER C. MOORE.
