Be it known that I, HARRY WEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVaslr ington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Registering Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in game devices, and it consists in the constructions herein described and Claimed.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved game device for racking pool balls which will efliciently rack the balls and operate with certainty to automatically register the number of games played.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application and in which similar reference symbols indicate corresponding parts in the several views:Figure 1 is a plan view, illustrating one embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is an elevation at the right hand of Fig. 1, with parts broken away; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the construction shown in Fig. 1; Fig. at is an enlarged detail section of the manually-operated means for actuating the registering device and signal bell; and Fig. 5 is an elevation at the left hand of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a triangular racking frame of any usual and well known shape having a plate 2 pivoted thereto at 5, and provided with an upper shield 3 and a lower shield 4:; coiled springs 6 being secured to said frame and plate for yieldingly maintaining said shields extending within the inner edge of the frame.

An arm 7 is rigidly secured to the plate 2 and connected at its free end to a rod 8 having a piston 9 rigidly secured thereto and sliding in a cylinder 10 mounted on the frame 1; a spring 11 being confined be tween said piston 9 and a stop 12 rigidly secured to said cylinder 10 to provide yielding means for returning the rod 8 and its piston 9 to their normal position. The rod 8 carries an end piston 13, which is normally spaced from a piston 14, which latter carries a head 15 for actuating the registering device 16; a spring 17 engaging said piston 14 for yieldingly maintaining the latter in its normal right hand position, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

A signal bell 18 is mounted on the frame, with its hammer 19 connected by a rod 20 to the head 15 of the piston 14;; whereby said bell will be rung upon actuation of the register 16 by said head 15.

A plate 21 is connected to the rod 8 in any suitable manner, as by a link 22 or a pin extending through a slot in the cylinder 10, said plate 21 having a handle 23 hinged thereto at 24.

In the operation of my device, my improved frame is placed on the table and the balls assembled therein. The operator then retracts the handle 23 to shift the lower shield 4 past the outer edge of the frame 1; thereby releasing the assembled balls and permitting the frame to be raised therefrom. The upper shield 3 is so constructed that it extends past the inner edge of the frame 1 in all positions of the lower shield 1 thereby preventing an inverted 01' incorrect use of the frame. When the rod 8 is retracted to its full length by such actuation of the handle 2-3, the piston 13 of said rod engages the free piston 14, and forces the latter against the action of the spring 17 to actuate the registering device 16 and the signal bell 18. This operation gives a registration of the use of the device, and also signals to the operator that the handle 23 has been sufficiently retracted by him for removing the lower shield 4 completely past the outer edge of the frame.

I have illustrated and described preferred and satisfactory constructions, but changes could be made within the spirit and scope of my invention.

I claim 1. A game device, comprising a triangular racking frame, a lower shield pivoted to said frame, resilient means for yieldingly shifting said shield past the inner edge of said frame, manually-operated means for shifting said shield past the outer edge of said frame, an upper shield carried by said lower shield and adapted to extend past the inner edge of the frame in all positions of said lower shield, a registering device, a signal bell, and means adapted to be engaged by said manually-operated means for actuating said registering device and bell.

2. A game device, comprising a triangular racking frame, a lower shield pivoted to said frame, resilient means for yieldingly shifting said shield past the inner edge of said frame, manually-operated means for shifting said shield past the outer edge of said frame, an upper shield carried by said lower shield and adapted to extend past the inner edge of the frame in all positions of said lower shield, at registering device, a signal bell, a common shiftable means adapted to be engaged by said manuallyoperated means for actuating said registering device and bell, and resilient means for yieldingly maintaining said shiftable means in normal position.

3. A game device, comprising a triangular racking frame, a plate pivoted on said frame, resilient means for yieldingly maintaining said plate in contact With the outer face of said frame, upper and lower shields carried by said plate and adapted to extend past the inner edge of said frame, manually-operated means for swinging said pivoted plate to shift said lower shield past the outer edge of said frame, a registering device, a signal bell, and means adapted to be engaged by said manually operated means for actuating said registering device and bell.
