The purpose oit the invent-ion is to so ar-I range the character-smut! keys with respect to each other that when the latter are ac'tnated the result will he an apparent hetero geneousvcoHglon'iera-tion of printed. characterscenstitutingj a cipher, the iranslarion of which can only be made by one haring the key to or a knowledge of the relative @our hination of the printed forms, and having such key the printed forms mayY he arbitrarily re-aeanged to harmonize therewith s0 that the striking of the keys in the order `0i the printed cipher will result in the automatic translation of said printed cipher and the printing of the message in its original form.
