the said circular projection 29 snugly fitting the intei'iorwalls of the crucible around the major portionof its upper edge. This lid or coverv is. also provided on its-upper face with a central boss 30, which curves down-k wardly and merges into the upperfaceof the lid.` The lid and boss may also be pro videdwith a small central bore 31, said boss bein adapted to project a short dist-ance within the opening 15 of thefurnace cover. A crucible for'metallurgical furnaces having an open upper end provided with a short spout, substantially semi-circular in cress-section, said spout being open-ended and disposed. at right angles to the major axis of said-Crucible, and a substantially send-circular4 lining, forming a. pouring trough adapted t0 b mounted on the furnace and provided at its inner end with an inturned l'angeV adapted te seat the outer- Curved spout projecting horizontally therefrom providing a discharge surface substantially below the top edge ofthe Crucible, the outer surface of `said spout being provided with an external peripheral flange, and a curved lin'ng forming a pouring trough, adapted to be mounted on said furnace and rovided at its inner end with an inturned ange adapted to seat below said spout on the inside of its external -flange.
5. The combination With a metallurgical furnace of a Crucible mounted therein and provided at its u per open end with a horizontally disposer? curved spout open at its top and outer end, providing a discharge surface substantially below the top edges of the Crucible, a lid for said crucible having an annular recess on its underneath face providing a ledge adapted to snugly seat on the top edge' of said crucible, said lid being provided With an extending lip or otherwise adapted to cover the upper portion of said spout, a central boss formed on the upper face of said lid, and a removable cover for said furnace provided with a central aperture and a recess on its lower face, for forming a passageway between said furnace cover and Crucible lid to conduct the products of combustion through said central opening.
