DEVICE FOR SCATTERING HANDBILLS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 20, 1914.
Application filed May 15, 1913. Serial No. 767.940.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH HtiNnRKoPr, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Bischofsheim, near Mayence, Germany, have invented a certain Device for Scattering Handbills and the like, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a device for scattering hand bills and the like and consists in the provision of a drum which is rotatably suspended in the frame and provided with radially arranged pockets, said drum being connected to an apron which normally surrounds the same so as to keep the pockets closed. While the end of the apron is secured to the drum, the other end is loose and connected to a weight which is adapted to turn the drum slowly and unroll the apron so that the pockets can discharge their contents.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is illustrated by a perspective view of the device.
A drum (Z is rotatably held in a frame 0 which is suspended by means of cords b and a pulley from a flag staff a or the like. The drum is divided into a number of radial pockets 6 in which the hand bills or the like are stored. An apron f is wound on the drum so as to cover the pockets and keep the contents within the same. While one end of the apron f is secured to the drum, the other end is loose and actuated by a weight 9 adapted to turn the drum slowly about its axis, the drum being suitably braked for the regulation of the speed. The apron is guided over a roller i, which is held in the frame 0 underneath the drum, and is unwound from the drum as the roller is rotated. This rotation of the drum causes the pockets 6 to turn open as they pass the roller 2', and to scatter their contents, as shown in the figure.
It is advisable to carry the pockets 6 helically about the axis of the drum so that they,
instead of being opened suddenly throughout their length, are opened gradually from end toward the other, the apron f and the roller 2' being arranged parallel to the axis of rotation. In this manner the bills will be evenly scattered.
The apron f may be colored so as to represent a flag or the like. Flags it may be arranged radially at the ends of the drum shaft so as to turn around with the drum.
I claim 1. A device for scattering hand bills and the like comprising a drum having radially arranged pockets adapted to receive the bills, a frame in which the drum is rotatably held, means for suspending said frame and drum in an elevated position, an apron adapted to inclose the drum so as to cover the pockets, said apron having one end secured to the drum, the other end of the apron being loose, and a weight connected to the loose end of the apron so as to unroll the latter gradually from the drum and allow the contents of the pockets to be discharged, substantially as set forth.
2. A device for scattering hand bills and the like, comprising a drum having radial pockets for the reception of the bills, said pockets being carried helically about the drum axis, a frame in which the drum is rotatably held, means for suspending said frame and drum in an elevated position, an apron adapted to inclose the drum so as to cover the pockets, said apron having one end secured to the drum, the other end of the apron being loose, and a weight connected to the loose end of the apron so as to unroll the latter gradually from the drum and allow the contents of the pockets to be discharged, substantially as set forth.
