In carrying out she present invention there are nrovided a pair of guides 2, which prefei hl f formed from shit-able metallic rods and which are disposed in a horizontal manner along theouter sides or feces of the rails of the window sash 1. contacts with the window pane to swab or clean the same. Clamping screws 11 are engaged through the plates or strips 6 to clamp them together over the wiper or squeegee strip 10. It is to be noted that the offset ends 7 which are provided with openings throughiwhich the guide rods 2 pass, serve to guide the cleaning member properly in a horizontal direction along the front of the window pane. The flanges 9 brace the plate or strips 6 against flexing horizontally at their intermediate portions, as will be apparent. It is of course understood that the plates 6 may be separated for permitting the adjustment or replacement of the rubber strip 10, whenever desired or necessary.

Two pairs of brackets 12 are secured to each face of the sash, preferably to the stiles thereof, adjoining the angular ends of the guide rods, and a sheave 13 is journ'aled within each bracket 19, the brackets on the inside and outside being opposed to-each other. Apair of wire cables or flexible elements let are trained over the respective sets of pulleys or rotary guides, and the upper and lower runs of the cables l-ii pass loosely through openings or apertures provided in the stiles of the sash. The horizontal runs of the cables or flexible elements 14: extend over the outer and inner sides of the window pane, adjoining the stiles, the outer runs of the cables 1% being secured to the clamping strips or plates (3.

The bar or handle 15 is so disposed, that when the cleaning member is at one end of its stroke, the bar or handle l5 will be the other end of its stroke, in order that the vision through the window pane wiii not be obstructed when the device is out of use.

It is to be observed that the wiper or squeegee strip 10 will be brought yieldingly against the outer face or side of theiwindow pane under the tension of the springs a, which will draw the guide rods inwardly. The person behind or in rear of the \yind'ow, may conveniently clean or wipe the face of the window pane, at any time, by simply shifting the handle or bar 15 hori- Zontally, the operation being repeated, if

necessary. The niovennnt or the bar outer incense will transinit an' opposite movement to the cleaning member, inorder to swab the outer face of the window pane, it being noted that or other extraneous matter from the outer face ott' the window pane. The bar or handle 1-5 may be graspedat any suitable point, without the liability of the cleaning member tilting or sliding unevenly, due to the offset ends 7 of the clamping plates em-' bracing the guide rods, as above indicated.
