Thisinveutioirconsists in forming blocking into solid cylindrical or tapering rolls, contained within a. thin ilm of metallic foil, through which the oil und other liquid substances contamed in suoli blackiug cannot permeate, and which prevents it from being dried to au'injurious extent by direct contact with the air.
Iu theanuexcd drawing;-
A represents such a. film of metnllio foil wrapped around a. solid roll of n'oter-pmoffblaekiug, of suoli consistency that it may bis applied@ the boot or shoeby takingit in the hand, and thefoil being rst trned back from one end, rubbing iii-ou Buch boot or s oe.
The foil,l being impermeable tr'rthe oleaginous eub-4 stances inthe blocking, will prevent soiling of the hand in using' it, and also serves as a preventative against-its rapid drying. i
The ordinary paper wrapper may be placed around the roll thus wrapped in Vmetallic foil, to give ita. neuter appearance, and serve as au advertising medium. 1 I um aware that blocking has A'lleretofore been formed in rolls and wrapped in paper without the interpositiou of aflm of metf'illcfoil. Also, that semi- `liquid blacking has been placed in tubes made of flexyible metal, from which tubesit is expelled by oompression. I do not. claim either of these methods; but
What .l do claim, and desire to secure by Letters As a new 'article of manufacture, solid rolls of blacking wrapped in a. thin film of metallic foil,`substan tially as and for thepurpoe 'set forth.
In testimony'wheneof, I-h'nre signed my naine to s H. Pmnns. D. Bue"
