To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN B. Eutin, a citizen of the United States, and a resident oiColunibia, in the county oi Richland and State of South Carolina, have inade certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Fuse-Resetters, of Which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for automatically resetting fuses and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed. y
The main object of niy invention is to provide a device to be used in connection with telegraph or telephone circuits i'or ren setting fuses which have been burned out by lightning. i
A further object of my invention is to provide a device for automatically resetting any number of fuses, thereby obviating the necessity of setting the device after each op eration, preparatory to the next operation.
A further object of my invention is to vprovide a novel device having certain inn provernents over that disclosed in my prior Patent #1,018,239.
Y @ther objects and advantages will appear in the -following specilication and the novel features of the device Will be particularly pointed out in the appended claires.
My invention is illustrated in the accom-n panying drawings forming part of this ap plication in which similar reference charactors indicate like parts in the several views Figure 1 is a plan view of the device, Fig. 2 is a vievv similar to Fig.. 'l showing the parts in a shifted position7 certain portions being broken away for the sake of clearness, Fig. 3 is a side view of the device certain parts being shown in section, Fig. i is a section along the.line 4-4 of Fig. l, Fig. 5 is a section along the line 5--5 of Fig. 2, Fig.
6 is a. section along the line 6--6 of Fig. l, and Fig. 7 is a view of detail parts of the device.
In carrying-out my invention I provide a base l upon which is mounted the binding posts 2 and 3, the rcel support 4, the brush supports 5 and and the cleaner arm supports 7. At S is a casing which is secured by means of screw bolts 9, Washers 1.0 being disposed between the casing and the base l. Journaled in the lovverwall of the casingis Specification of Letters Patent.

Referring particularly tol Figs. 2 and 3, I have shown a shaft E2G which is journaled in the casing 8, and which is provided with an escapenient 2? (sce l? 2 arranged 'to engage the escapenient Wheel 14. The un per end of this shaft is provided with an arm 28, which bears at its outer extremity an insulating stop member 2S?. The plate 2l is provided with an opening 2l through which the end 'of an S-shaped stop rnenilier 30 extends. This stop member 30 is pivot- I ally mounted in an opening 19Z in thebloclt 19 and the opening 2]. in the plate 21 is large enough to permit the pivotal niovenient of the plate 2l on its pivots 23 without interfering vwith the :n.ovcnient ofthe stop member 3G.
As will be seen. from the drawing-s the plate 18 has a block 19 and its associsdte plate 2l, and stop member 3() at cach end.

The stop member 8O is provided with an insulating tube 3l at its end arranged to en-v gage the fuse Wire 25. The fuse Wire 25 is carried on a shoulder 32 mounted on the support 4. A spring 33 bears at one end on a rod 34 which passes through the post Li, as shown in Fig'. 6, the outer end ot' a rod forming a guide eye 34.- through which the fuse wire passes. A plate' 35 receives pressure from the spring 33 and the wire is held between this plate 35 and a plate 36, the latter being secured to the post by means of a thumb nut 37. The spring 3B is for the purpose of supplying suiiicient tension resistance to prevent the unwinding of the reel 32.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device the ooeration thereyof mav be readily understood.
ln setting the device the wire is passed through the guide 34; '(see Fig. l) and a portion of it is placed between one of the plates 2i and its associate block i9, the plate being lifted against the tension of the spring 2Q so that when the of the fuse wire 1s placed underneath the. plate it will spring' down upon it and clamp it. As the fuse Wire which is held between the two gripping' plates 2 again comes into engagement with the stop member 30, it will be forced against the block 29 so as to stop the vibration of the latter and hence will stop the rotation of the plate. lt will thus be seen that the number of fuses which may be blown in succession and immediately replaced Will depend merely upon the capacity of the Wire. When once set up the device requires' no further attention, but is abs0- lutely automatic and will reset the fuses as fast as they are blown out.

2. ln a device for automatically resetting fuse wires, a revoluble plate, a pair of spring clips carried by said plate and arranged to receive the wire, aspiring for revolving said plate, an escapement device having a vibrat- 105 ing portion for regulating the movement of the plate, a pivoted stop member carried by the plate and arranged to be engaged by the fuse wire during the revolution of the plate and to be forced into the path of the no vibrating portion of the escapement mechanism, thereby stopping the latter and preventing the vfurther rotation of the plate.
3. In a device for automatically resetting fuse Wires, a revoluble plate, a pair of spring 115 clips carried by said plate and arranged to a spring for revolving said plate, an escapement device for regulating the movement of the plate, an arm rigidly secured to said escapement, 'a stop carried by 120 said arm, said arm having a vibratory movement during the operation of the escapement mechanism, and a pivoted arm carried by the plate and arranged tobe engaged by a portion of the fuse wire duringlthe revoluv3,25 tion 'of the plate and to be moved thereby into the path of the vibrating arm so as to prevent the movement of the latter, thereby stopping the rotation of the plate.
