IMPROVEMENT lN SEED-PLANTERS AND GUANO-DISTRIBUTERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettere Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I, WlLLIAM L. 'IRAYUHML of Warrenton, in the county of Warren and State O'v Georgia, have invented a new audnscful Improvement inSeed-Planters and Guano-Distributers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
Figure lis a side view of my improved machine, part being broken away, to show the construction.
Figure 2 is a top view of the same, part being broken away to show the construction.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish a silnple, convenient, and effective machine for planting seeds and distributing guano and other tine fertilizers, which shall be so constructed as to adapt it for attachment to an ordinary plow; and
It consists in the construction and combination of the various parts 0f the machine, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the beam, B are the handles, G is the standard, and D is the plow of au ordinary plow, about the construction of which parts there is nothing new.
E is the conductor-spout, which is attached to the rear side of the standard C andthe rear end of the beam A, so that its upper end may be' fiush with the upper side of the beam A.
F is the hopper, the bottom of which is extended in fron-t, for convenience in attaching the said hopper tothe beam A. Thehopper F is attached to the beam Ain such a way that it may project in the rear suiiiciently for the discharge-opening in its bottom to be directly over the open upper end of the conductor-spout I".
. G is a vertical shaft, the lower end or journal of which revolves in bearings in the center ofthe bottom of the hopper F, and its upper end or journal revolves in bearings in the bar H, the rear end of which is attached to the cross-bar or round of the handles B, and the forward end of which is attached to the upper end of the standard I, the lower end of which is attached to the beam A at a little distance infront of the-hopper F.
To the lower part of the shaft G is attached aband or hub, J, provided with four, more or less, ngers, K, which are curved in such a way that, when the shaft G is revolved by the advance of the machine, the said fingers may keep t-he contents of the lower part of the hopper stirred up, and, at the same time, feed them toward the discharge-opening in the bottom of said hopper.
To the upper end of the vertical shaft G is attached a pulley, L, which has a flange formed around its lower end, and around which passes the belt M, Awhich also passes around the pulley N, attached to or connected with the drive-wheel O, which is pivoted to the side of the forward part of the frame A.
The belt M is guided and kept in proper position in its passage from the horizontal to the vertical pulley by the small gnide-rollerP, pivoted to the side of the standard I, as shown is figs. l and 2.
The drive-wheelO is made of suoli a size that it may roll along and receive motion from the surface of the ground as the machine is drawn forward.

I claim as new and desire tot secure by Letters Patentlhe combination of the condnctor-spoutE, hopper F, vertical shaft G, stirrer J K, pulley L, band M, pulley N, and drive-wheel O, with each other and with the beam, standard, and handles of.ai1 ordinary plow, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
