This invention rela to improvements in circuit controllers for electric signs, and the objects of the invention are to provide means bywhich a maximum amount of variation in the connection to the circuit may be obtained, and further to enable the changes to he marle with real. rapidity \vhereb an aggregation of illuminating or other devices may be caused to display different figures or ietl rsat the will of the operator, and it consrsls excntially of the improved construction hereinafter described. in detail in the accompanying specifications and drawings.
In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation, partially diagrammatic, of an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 2 is a cross section through the controlling cylinder. Fig. fi is a perspective view of one of the contact. devices. Fig. 4 a sectional detail through one of the contact devices taken on the line 2-2, Fig. 3.
In the drawings like characlere of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Referring to a rotary controlling material, supported the drawings, A represents cylinder of insulating in any suitable way and adapted to be driven by suitahleineans which do not form part of the present invention. This cylinder carries on its surface longitudinal and peripheral rows of contact devices B which are adapted to co operate with pairs of contact fingers C carried on a fixed support D.
The pairsof contact fingers are arranged .in a row on the fixed support and are placed paced adietance from each other and out f electric Contact with each other, being lves included in an electric circuit 14 I I a source of oil; incluolm an illuminating device or lamp 15 while i may form part of a sign l each of contacts thus controlling a aimilar lamp or illuminating device.
Each of the contact devices B comprises a aoclaetmernher 1.7 formed with a base plate 18 and side plates 19 and 550 of spring metal, which fit closely to an outwardly rnovahle part 2-1 which is pivoted or hinged to the socket by means of a pin 22, being adapted to he ined in either extended or closed position hv suitable means, such as projections and formed on the side plates a :teri to fit into ccrres -ndlng depressions K'FJCQSASQS formed. on. the. plate or lilatie- "l. A
It "will amen that the plate or blade 21 may he turned outwardly at right angles to the suriace ct the cylinder or substantially tangential thereto and will be retained in either osition.
Till he that by selecting the various lamps to he lighted and raising or lowering the corresponding blades on the contact devices the various letters, characters or pictures may be shown on the sign at the will of the operator as the cylinder revolves.
What I claim as my invention is:
1, A controller for electric circuits comprising in combination a plurality of pairs of fixed contact fingers, a. rotary cylinder of insulating material, a plurality of con tact devices thereon, each having an ou twartlly movable part ariapted when extendeel to form a connection between the contact fin ers of a determined pair when the cylin er'is rotated. A
A controller for electric circuits comprising in combination a plurality of pairs of fixed contact fingers, a rotary cylinder of insulating material, a plurality of con tact devices thereon arranged in transverse anti peripheral rows, each having an outwardly movable part adapted when extendeti to a connection between the contact. ilugera of a determined pair when tie:- e ler i9 XQ'iuil'a.
contrr ler for electric circuits coma combination a plurality of pairs owe]: 1.5, said of fixed contact fingers, a rotary cylinder of insulating materlal, a p'urality of contact devices thereon, each having an out, wardly movable pivoted blade adapted when extended to form a connection between the contact fingers of a determined pair when the cylinder is rotated.
4. A controller for electric circuits comprising in combination a plurality of pairs of fixed contact fingers, a separate electric circuit for each pair of fingers including an illuminating device and a source of power, a plurality of contact devices, each comprising a socket, a blade pivoted in the socket, said socket having pro'ections, and 15 said blade having oorrespon ing recesses whereby the blade is held m raised or lowercd position, said blade beingiadapted, when the cylinder is rotated, to complete the electric circuit between the contact 20 fin ers of a given pair.
n witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
