Be it known that I, James MCFATMGK, of- Lena, in the county of Stephenson and Stateof Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in AddI'essing-llachine; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being hadf to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.v l

This invention has for its object the production of a machine capable ofaddresslng newspapers, circulars, die., and consists in certain details' ot'construction, whichwill be fully described hereinafter.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and methodof operation.

Below the table, near the loor, I provide a treadlelever, B, the fixed end of which is attached to one ofthe legsof the tripod,as shown, the free end being guided -in its increment by means of a slotted plate, b.

O represents a vertical4 rod, the flower `end of which is attached to the treadle-lever in such-manner as topermit the necessary play incidental to the movement of the latter. Its upper end passes through and ab'ovc the table, Vas clearly shown in the drawing.

Upon the rod, at its lower end, but above the tripod, is located a spring, c, which is held iu place by means of a collar, c' adjusted `by a'set-srew.

The pawl (or dog) works in notches (or coge) formed by the type and'slugs, or the slugs .may he extended over t-he edge of the galley, iu `which ease `they are furnished with a knob inthe end, so that the paWl may work upon the type or slugs, as may be desired'.
