IMPRovEMEN-r. |N` HAm-cuR'LERs..
d The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent andfmaking part of the same.
To all @thorn it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN W. KENNY and JOHN ADAMS, of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented a new and irnproved Hair-Gulden; and we do hereby declare that the v following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,
which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompany-` ing drawing forming spart of this specication.
Our invention relates to curling-irons, and our object is to make certain.improvements'thereon, which will first be described in connection with Vall that is necessary to a ,full understanding thereof'. and then clearly pointed out inthe claim. 4
The drawing is aa Sect-ionalelevation of our improved curling instrument. y y
A is the curling-cylinder, which we propose to make of thin sh'eet-metahsaytin, rolled up into the form of' a tube, closed atV the end B and open at the other, where it is provided with an internal screw-thread, C.
D is a heating-rod, `of iron, made considerably smaller than'the tube, `and attached to the handle E, which` has ascrew-thread at Fitting the thread G,
and screwing so as to make a water-tight joint.'
We employ this thin hollow curling instrument for the purpose of heating it readily by means of water placed in it, and the heated rod D plunged into the water and screwed into theA tube; also, for providing a heat that will not burn the hair, which is common when the cui-1ers are heated in thel ordinary way.
G is a thimble or sleeve, which `we fit onto the small end of the tube for slipping on over the end of the lock of hair, to confine and hold it while curling.
Having thus described our invention, We claim ns new and 'de-sire to secure by'Letters 'Patent- 1. The tube A, closed at and internally threaded at C, combined, with a handle, E, correspondingly threaded, and having the heating-rod D thereto attached, as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination with a curling-iron tube A, of
the loose hair-holding tube G, arranged as and for the purpose described. Y
