To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, Louis SIDNEY Bnownn, citizen of the United States, residing at Black Rock, in the county of Lawrence and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaginal Syringes; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable o-thers skilled. in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in vaginal syringes. y
@ne'objeot ofthe invention is to provide a syringe of this character having a nozzle provided with an improved construction and arrangement of dilator.
Another object is to provide an improved construction and arrangement ofV shield to closely fit the parts whereby the injected fluid is caught when discharged from the orifice and from which the discharged fluid may be conducted without leakage to a suitable receptacle.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure l is a perspective view of my improved syr-V inge; Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section through the shield of the syringe showing the nozzle, dilator and upper end of the fluid conducting tube engaged therewith and in side elevation; Fig. 3 isfan enlarged longitudinal sectional view of the nozzle, dilator and upper end of the fluid conducting tube; Fig. t is a cross sectional view taken on the line lf-4f of F ig. 3; Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the nozzle with the dilator removed.
Referring more particularly to the draw ings, l denotes the nozzle of my improved syringe, said nozzle having a tapered discharge spout 2 in the outer end of which is a discharge opening 3. On the opposite end of the nozzle is an annular enlargement 4 to which is connected the discharge end of a flexible fluid conducting tube 5. On the nozzle l a short distance above the enlarge ment 4L is formed an annular radially projecting flange 6 having therein a seriesof apertures 7.
The nozzle l is provided with a dilater 8 formed of a series of wire rods 9 each of which is bent midway between its ends to form a loop. The loops formed by the rods Q'gradually taper or Vdecrease in width from the nozzle toward the outer end of the dilator and the inner ends of the rods forming the loops are bent inwardly and thence forwardly and are engaged with andv riveted or otherwise rigidly secured in the apertures Y i sist-s of siX rods or loops, the outer ends of which are arranged one within the other while the sides of the loops or ends of the rods are spaced equal distances apart as shown.
The fluid conducting tube 5 may be connected with a reservoir or with any source of fluid supply, said tube being here shown as provided with a bulb l0 which is arranged at any suitable location in the tube and is provided with the usual or any suitable formV of valves whereby the suction and flow of the water through the tube is controlled. `When the syringe is provided with abulb, the outer end of the tube will be disposed in a receptacle ll containing the water or other fluid to be injected by the syringe.
In connection with the syringe, I provide a shield l2' which is preferably in the form of a substantially elliptical shaped cup, the edges of which are arc shaped to closely lit the parts to which the syringe is to be applied, thus preventing any leakage of the injected fluid when discharged from the parts. @n the outer side of the shield near one end thereof is formed a discharge spout 13 having on its outer edge an annular bead and with which is adapted to be connected a flexible fluid discharging tube 14 whereby the fluid discharged into the shield is carried ofi' or conducted therefrom to a suitable receptacle provided to receive the same.
By means of a syringe constructed in acl Copies of this patent may be obtained for tice to be treated, the dilator will hold the walls of the orifice open so that the injected fluid will reach the entire surface of the parts and when discharged therefrom will be carried oii1 without any leakage, thus particularly adapting the syringe for use when ina reclining position.
While I have herein shown and described the invention as a vaginal syringe, it is obvious that the same may be employed with equal advantage as a rectal or other form of syringe and when so employed the shield 12 may be constructed to conform to the shape of the parts to which the syringe is applied.
It will be noted that by forming the inner ends of the dilator loops as herein shown and described that all angular surfaces or corners of the nozzle are covered and only the smooth rounded or curved parts of the dilator come into contact with the parts to which the nozzle is applied, thus obviating any danger of the parts being injured by the application of the nozzle thereto.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construct-ion may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacricing any of the advantages of the invention as claimed.
