Poem', of La Porte, inthe county `ofLa Porte and `State of Indiana, have inventedla newjfand valuable Improvement in Bedstead-Fastenings; and Ido hereby de-` clare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of thefconstruction and operation of the same, reference being had' to `the annexed drawing making a part of ythis specication and' to the lettersand gures of reference marked thereon.

My invention has relation to an improvement in the means for fastening the rails of hedsteads to the poststhereof, for which Letters 'Patent were issued tome June l, 1869, and consists in the'construction of the socket, and the method of securing the same to the post, wherebyit 4is proposedto save both labor and material. j v l The letter Al of the. drawing designates the rail of the bedsteadwith its hook B;

C designates the bed-post; and

D the metallic socket-piece attached thereto, and

designed to sustain the hook B.

thus reducing.' both tothe same general form, but making the lower slot the longer of the' two; 'but the end of the socket-piece, against which thekey or wedge is ldriven, to secure thesame to the bed-post, is entirely dierent in construction, and consists of a plain beveled snrfaee, e, extending the full .width of the socketLpiece.

By this construction much labor is saved. The moltise' maybe made without the aid of a mortisingmachina Only one anger is needed, as both ends ofv the socket-piece are of the same width. Hence, a saving of expense, and this saving is iucreased'by the fact that one half of a cylindrical pin serves to wedge the socket-piece in its place. The dat side of the semi-cylindrical key s is placed next the beveled end ofthe socket-piece.
