Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 18, 1911. Serial No. 609,447. i
To all whom it may concern Beitlmownthat I GrnoRon H. DEMORE,
of Syracuse, in the county ofOnonda-ga and I H j ax ally trom. its inner side 1uto the plugfiZ,
State of-New York, have invented a certain new and useful; lVinding-Roller construe: ition, of which thefollowlngis ,a spec1fica 1 i-s-This invention has for its object a particularly simple andjefficient winding roller for rais ng windowsandcurtams, etc.; and
it consists in theicombinations and construc tions lhQl'QlllflfbGI'. set forth, and claimed.
In describingthis invention reference is i had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters des gnate corresp onding p arts in all the vlews.
a {Figure l is a longitudinal sectional View ofvaiportion of this winding roller. Fig. 2 an end VLGW, thereof, and F g. 3 is an inner face VlGWOf; the end member of the roller. 1
J-This winding roller comprises, generally,
a tubular thin metallic shell- 1, a plug 2 Within the shell near-one end thereof and terminating short o fisaid' end, an end memher 3 located in said end near the plug and engaging t-he plug, the end member having a rigid axle 4E projecting from its outer side and means at its inner side for maintainlng the end member 1n posltion with its ZLXlS' alined with the axis of the shell.
A suitable winding spring not shown is located within the shell 1 and connected thereto in any suitable manner. As said spring is not pertinent to this invention further description thereof is deemed unnecessary.
The shell 1 is here shown as cylindrical and is formed with a loop portion projecting into the interior thereof and forming a lengthwise internal shoulder and an external groove 6 for receiving the ends of curtains, or chains or cords supporting windows.
The plug 2 is usually composed of wood and is formed with a peripheral groove for receiving the internal shoulder 5 and is secured in position in the shell 1 by nipples 7 projected inwardly from the shell into the plug. However, the plug may be secured from movement in the shell 1 in any suitable manner.
The end member 3 is discoidal in form and is fitted within the end of the shell with its periphery engaging the inner circumferbeing provided with a stem 9 projecting the stem being usuallynon-circular in form.
' PatentedOct.28,1913.
ential surface of the shell, said member abut ting against the end of the plug at 8 and Themembert is also formed with a periph oral notch 10 for receiving the lengthwise shoulder 5 of theshell 1. After the end member 3 ,hasbeen placed in the shell, it is secured thei-ein by turning inwardly the edge or margin'll of the end of the shell onto the outer face ofthe member 3.
A winding roller constructed as described is particularly advantageous, for the reason thatthe end member is rigidly supported and prevented from becoming twisted so that its, axis is out of ,alinement withthe shell 1.
What I claim is:
1. A winding'roller comprising a tubular shell, a plug in the shell near one end thereof and terminating short of said endfand an end member arranged in said end of the shell having a rigid axle projecting from its outer side and means projecting from its inner ide into the plug,' substantially as and for the purpose described.
2 A winding roller comprising a tubular shell, a plug within the shell near oneend thereof terminating short of said end, a rigid end member fitting the end of the shell and having an axle projecting from its outer side and means projecting from its inner side into the plug, and means associated with the shell and coasting with said member for holding the same from movement out of the shell, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. A winding roller comprising a tubular 4. ii winding roller comprising a tubular cylindrical shell, a plug within the shell near one end thereof and terminating short of said end, and a rigid member fitting the end of the shell and having an axle rigid therewith projecting from its outer side, and means projecting from its inner side into the plug, said member abutting against the end of the plug, and the shell being provided with means coacting with said memher for holding the same from movement out of the shell and against the end of the plug, substantiallyras and for the purpose described.
5. A winding roller comprising a tubular shell, a plug fixed in the shell near one end thereof and terminating short of said end,
and an end member located in said end of the shell and having an axle projecting from its outer side and means projecting from its inner side into the plug, the edge at said end of the shell being turned inwardly on the outer face of the end member, substantially as and for the purpose described.
6. A winding roller comprising a tubular shell, a plug fixed 1n the shell near one end thereof and terminating short of said end,
- and an end member arranged in said end ripheral groove for receiving the shoulder, and a discoidal end member fitting said end of the shell and abutting against the plug and comprising an axle projecting from its outer side, the edge of the shell at said end being turned inwardly on the outer face of the end member, substantially as and for the purpose described.
8. A winding roller comprising a tubular cylindrical shell having a lengthwis internal shoulder, a plug within the shell near one end thereof and terminating short of said end, the plug being formed with a peripheral groove for receiving the shoulder, and a discoidal end member fitting within said end of the shell and formed with a peripheral notch for receiving the shoulder, said end member abutting against the plug and comprising an axle projecting from its outer side, and a stem projecting from its inner side and into the plug, and the edge of the tubular shell at said end being turned inwardly on the outer face of the end member, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two attesting witnesses, at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, this l lth day of February, 1911.
GEORGE H. DEMORE.
