To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM N. WOLFE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooksville, in the county of Hernando and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Coupling or Clasp for Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to a coupling or clasp for suspenders and other articles of wearing apparel or the like.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a coupling or clasp embodying two parts which may be interlocked in a novel manner, so that the two parts are normally locked together against casual cletachment, but are permitted to be separated by swinging t-he'parts relative to each other to a predetermined position.

This invention also-aims to provide such a clasp which shall be simple, inexpensive, durable and compact in construction, as well as convenient, serviceable and eflicient.

With the above and other objects in view, which will be apparent as the invention is better understood, the present invention resides in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts, .as hereinafter particularly set forth and claimed, it being understood that this device is susceptible ofalterationsand deviations in-its details within the scope of what is claimed without Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clasp as applied to a pair of suspenders. Referring specifically to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates the elastic of a pair of suspenders, the end of which is looped as usual and engaged by a loop or member 6 to which the button engaging fork or tabs 7 are to be detachably connected. The loop 6 and the tabs 7 are detachably connected by the provision of the present clasp, the clasp being designated generally by the numeral 8. r

In carrying out the present invention, the clasp has been constructed of two parts 9 and 10. The part 10 is constructed from a blank of metal or any other suitable material, the lower end 12 thereof being bent back and secured by the rivets 13 or otherwise, thus forming a loop 1% through which is engaged a wire bail 15. The fork 7 is engaged to the bail 15 in any suitable manner, as will be readily understood. The upper end of the plate 11 is hooked as designated by the numeral 16.

15 and 22, although the two parts of the clasp may be connected to the members to be attached in any suitable manner. The plate 1'? is provided with flaps 23 at its sides, which are bent over edges of the end 20 and over the ends'of the coils 19, the flaps overlying the flaps 20 as designated by the numeral 2-1. A filler of leather or any other suitable material is disposed in the part 9, as indicated by the numeral 25, the said filler retaining the shape of the said part and preventing its accidental distortion.

The hook 16 is designed to be engaged with the convolutions of the coil 19whcn the parts are swung from an angular position relative to each other into the same The other part 9 of the clasp embodies a 7 plane, as will be apparent, the two parts thereby being locked against casual or accidental detachment. Then, by swinging the two parts together, or by doubling the parts together, the hook 16 will be disengaged from the convolutions of the coil 19 so that the parts may be separated.

I From the foregoing, taken in connection with the drawings, the advantages and capabilities of the present clasp will be evident,

and it will be apparent that the objects aimed at have been carried out in a satisfactory manner.

In practice, it is preferable to construct the coupling somewhat wider and shorter than shown in the drawing in order that it may occupy the least possible space, and is also preferable to connect the bail 22 direct with the elastic 5, thus eliminating with the use of the member 6.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A two partclasp, the outer ends of which are attachable to two articles, the inner end of one part being bent back and coiled outward, and the inner end of the other part being bent into a hook adapted to engage within the convolutions of the coil.

2. A two part clasp, one part having a hook at one end, and the other part having one end bent back and coiled outwardly and having its other end bent back into ongagement with. the outer convolution of the coil, the sides of the latter part having flaps bent over the ends of the coil, and the edges of the latter end, the hook being adapted to engage within the convolutions of the coil.

3. A two part clasp, one part having a hook at one end, and the other part having one end bent back and coiled outwardly and having portions bent over the ends and into engagement with the outer convolution of the coil, the hook being designed to engage within the convolutions of the coil.

4. A clasp element having one end bent back and coiled outward for the reception. of a hook, and having portions bent over the ends and in engagement with the outer convolution of the coil.

5. A. clasp element having one end bent back and coiled outward for the reception of a hook, and having its other end bent back into engagement with the outer convolution of the coil, the said element having at its sides bent over the ends of the coil and the edges of the latter end.
