JOHN B. YORK, 0F SPANISH FORT, TEXAS.
PUMZPING ATTACHMENT.
Application filed April 30,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J on B. YORK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spanish Fort, in the county of Montague and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pumpin Attachments, of which the foll\ wing is a specification.
This invention relates to pumping attachments.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to construct a mechanism in such a manner that the piston rod will travel in a vertical direction without oscillation as is customary, and another object is to provide a simple and eflicient device of this character which may be attached to an ordinary pump or like device and operated with a minimum amount of power.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation taken at right angles to Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing 1 represents an ordinary pump having the usual discharge spout 2. Mounted upon the top of the pump and secured thereto in any suitable manner is a pump cylinder 3 having a valve piston head 4: working therein. This piston head is connected rigidly to a piston rod 5 with its upper end pivoted to a yoke member 6, the legs of which being in turn connected to parallel cranks 7 upon a driven shaft 8 journaled in bearings upon the top of the cylin- I der 8. Adjacent the connection of the piston rod with the yoke member 6 the same is provided with a guideway 9 in which the shaft 8 is rotatably mounted, said guideway being formed by offsetting a portion of the piston rod and attaching thereto over the offset portion, a guide plate 10. This structure permits the shaft 8 to rotate freely and Specification of Letters Patent.

at the same time also permits the piston rod to reciprocate over said shaft. Thus it will be seen that the piston rod will move vertically at all times, owing to the fact that it was guided by the shaft and that the yoke member 6 will oscillate in accordance with the movements of the cranks.
Secured to one end of the shaft 8 is a gear wheel 11 which meshes with a somewhat larger gear 12 carried upon a supporting bracket 13 projected outwardly from the casing. This gear is provided with a suitable operating crank 1 1 whereby the shaft may be properly operated. The opposite end of the shaft has secured thereto a gear 15 which meshes with a similar gear of smaller diameter indicated at 16 and mounted upon a bracket arm 17 extending outwardly from the cylinder 3. This bracket arm also carries a fly wheel 18 which is driven by the gear 16.
I claim In combination, a pump cylinder, a piston operating therein, a piston rod rigidly connected to the piston and having its free end ofiset, the said offset portion forming a guide-way within the piston rod and in vertical alinement thereto, a crank shaft having a pair of alined cranks arranged on opposite sides of the said piston rod having the portion between the cranks extending through said guide-way, a member secured to the piston rod and disposed over the guide-way therein, a yoke member pivoted to the upper end of the piston rod and having its ends pivotally connected to the cranks, said crank shaft adapted to guide the piston rod, gearing carried by the shaft 1 and a fly wheel included in the gearing.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
