To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Belt- Shippers for Speeder-Cones, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to certain new and useful improvements in belt shippers for spceder cones, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this type in which the upper and lowe" elt forks are automatically maintained in predetermined relation to the respective cones in any position which the belt may assume or be moved along the lengths of the cones.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation parts being broken away and shown in section. Fig. 3 is a. detail view showing the bowl in side elevation. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view taken on the line of 4% of Fig. 2, Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the adjusting bracket of the lower belt fork, and Fig. 6 is a detail top plan view of the lower belt fork and connected parts, the latter shown partly in section.
The lower cone 1 and the upper cone 2 are driven by the belt 3 in the usual manner, the cones being ournaled in the frame 1-. A horizontal slidable bar 5 is movably connected at one end to the frame 4: and is disposed so as to extend substantially central of the space between said cones. Bar 5 slides through a guide 25 carried by frame 4, the guide having a roller 7 on which the bar 5 rides in its forward and backward movements to shift the belt. A vertical bracket 8 is secured intermediate of its ends to the inner end of bar 5 by means of a bolt 9, the ends of the bracket being curved outwardly and bifurcated, each furcation being formed with an enlarged portion 10 that provides bearings for a pair of vertically sliding rods 11. lhe upper belt fork 12 is of cradle form, as depicted in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and has a pair of enlarged portions or bosses 13 formed on its under face into which bosses the upper ends of the rod 11 project and are rigidly secured. The lower or bottom belt fork 14 is of curved form as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and
has its ends engaging on opposite sides of pivotally connected the belt 3, and pivotally connected to a pair of bolts 15 that are secured to a bracket 16 which is rigidly secured to the lower ends of the rods 11. A bowl 17 of substantially V-shape, shown in Fig. 3 has a roller 18 journaled at its lower end, and supports the bracket 16, the roller riding on a guide 19 which is carried by the frame and which is in the nature of an inclined plane or surface, the pitch of which corresponds to the inclination of the cone 1, as shown in dotted lines in 1, of the drawings. The rods 11 11 are rigidly secured to the arms of the bowl 1? so as to move therewith as the roller 18 travels on the guide 1?. An adjustable bracket 20 has an opening 21 through which one of the bolts 15 extends in order to pivotally connect said bracket 20 to the bracket 16 that is carried by the rods 11 at their lower ends. The rear end of the bracket 20 is enlarged and provided with an arcuate slot 22 through which a bolt- 23 extends, the bolt projecting into the bracket 16, and by unloosening of same the bracket 20 may be adjusted so as to vary its position with respect to a horizontal plane. Bracket 20 is formed with an integral right angular arm 23 that inclines downwardly and has a finger 2 which engages on the under face of the lower belt fork 14k to support same against downward movement. From the above it will be ap parent that by adjustment of the bracket 20 the lower belt fork may be adjusted so as to vary the distance between same and the pe riphery of the lower cone 1, which is of particular advantage in that when the belt stretches it is possible to vary the position of the hot-tom belt fork with respect to cone 1, in order to compensate for the stretch of the belt. By having the bottom belt fork so that it may be swung upwardly and away from the cone 1, it is possible to raise the cone 1, when dofling, so that the belt may be returned to the starting point. It will, moreover, be apparent from the foregoing that by use of the present invention, the belt is positively prevented from creeping along the cones, since obviously the tendency of the belt is to ride on the portions of greatest diameter of the cones, the latter being particularly true with belts that have been in use for a long period of time, which leaves them soft and pliable.
In the present invention, the belt forks travel in a position or plane that is exactly parallel to the cone surfaces, which is true whether the belt be at one end or the other of the cones, and the belt forks always maintain the same relative positions with respect to the cones.
In operation it will be seen that as the bar 5 is moved to vary the position of the belt with respect to the length of the cones, the roller 18 which rides on the former 19, will cause the rods 11 and the upper and lower belt forks connected thereto to'slide vertically, the amount of vertical movement being governed by the inclination of the former, and since the latter corresponds to that of the cones, it will be apparent that the forks will be caused to maintain the same relative distances with regard to the cones.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a device of the type set forth, in combination with a pair of cones and a belt connecting same, a horizontal sliding bar located in the space between the cones, a vertical bracket carried by the bar and having its ends forked, a pair of vertical rods slidingly engaged with the forked ends of the bracket, an upper belt fork secured to the upper ends of said rods, a bracket rigidly connected to the lower ends of the rods, a bowl carried by the bracket and carrying a roller, a guide on which the roller rides, said guide having the same inclination as that of the cones, a lower belt fork pivoted at its ends to the bracket at the lower ends of the roos, and an adjustable bracket carried by the last named bracket and having a finger for engagement with the lower belt fork to limit downward movement of the latter.
2. A device for shipping belts of speeder cones, including an upper and a lower belt guide, means to connect said guides tocause simultaneous movement thereof, and means to vertically slide the connecting means of the guides as same are moved along the lengths of the cones to cause the guides to always have the same relative spaced distances from the cone peripheries.

combination with the belt of the Speeder cones, belt guides located adjacent each one, a vertically sliding device-rigidly connecting said belt guides to effect positive sim ultaneous movementof said guides and means to slide said device when the same .is moved longitudinally of the cones to enable the belt moved lengthwise of the cones.
. 5. In a device of the type set forth, in combination with a pair of cones and a belt connecting same, a horizontal sliding bar, a bracket carried by the bar, an upper and a lower belt fork, a connection between said forks slidinglyscarried by said bracket, and a static-nary guide having the same inclina- 7 tion as that of the cones engaged with said connection.
6. In a device of the type set forth, in combination with a pair of cones and a belt connecting same, an upper and a lower belt fork, a vertically sliding connection rigidly secured to each fork, and means to actuate said connection.
7. In combination with a pair of cones and a belt connecting same, a sliding bar disposed co-extensive with the axes of the cones, an upper and a lower belt fork, means to rigidly connect said forks, means connected to said bar for supporting said fork connecting means so that the latter is capable of transverse sliding movement relative to the bar, and means to actuate said fork connecting means. i e
