lllatented @et Tf. wie. serial no. eeaaa To all when?, it may concern i Be it known that l FnANn'V. Boeren, n citinen of the United tates of America, and residing at Bridgeport, in the county of liaireld and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and improved Adver tising Device, of which the following is a specification. 0
y My invention relates to advertising devices and particularly to a device for advertising a series of articles with interchangeable parts, the object of my invention being to rovide an attractive display device in Whlch the different arts of a series of articles having intere iangeable parts may be readily brought into desired relation to each other, in which position an identification mark such as a catalogue number is revealcd'by which the particular combination of interchangeable parts is dilerentinted from other combinations of said parts, thereby to 'facilitate the discovery of the proper style number by a dealer desiring 'to purchase any particular combination of the series.
rlhe accompanying drawing, illustrates in a broken elevation, one exemplary embodiment of my invention.
In the forni shown the method of display, which may be variously modified, comprises a placard A. on which is pivoted a disk B. The articles with interchangeable parts are here exemplified by a series of electric twopart ttings or which one part w1, ai, w3, etc., of any of the fittings may be used With any of the other parte y1, y2, y", etc., of the series of ttings. To bring these interchangeable parts readily into their various relationships, l arrange illustrations of one element oi the various fittings around the periphery of the disk B and the other element oi the various ttings in a circley on the base A just outside the disk. @bviously the rotation or the disk brings each o partof the nttings under each y part of the fittings.
To differentiate and identify the ttings in the various relationships of the interichangeable parts, an arbitrary symbolsuch 'as a number, is given to each particulr relationship ci the interchangeable/1 yarts.
Thus for the element y1 when combined with` .ai f the arbitrary number i12 is chosen stoof. identiiy this particular relationship.' For the combination or y1 e@ another arbi number chosen, and eo on for each element ot the o series with each element of the y series. ln the exemplication of my invention illustrated, these identification marks are arranged in columns C1, C?, C3, etc., extending radially from each y element on the bese beneath the disk E. To expose these marks a series of perforations D1, D2, etc., are cut in the disk B radially alined with each w member of the series of fittings, but spaced di'erent distances from the center of the disk, so that each perforation overlies a diderent mark in each ra# dial. column C as it passes over the same upon the rotation of the disk.
The value of the device is readily appreciated. A dealer desiring to order a particular combination of the interchangeable parts, has but to rotate the disk B upon the placard A. until the articular m element is alined With the particular y element ot the combination whereupon the identication mark oi this particular combination is displayed through the radially alined Dgapen ture in the disk.
lf a catalogue is used by the manufacturer of the ttings, the corresponding catalogue numbers will ordinarily be employed as the identification marks on the placard A and the dealer is thus saved the trouble of hunting laboriously through a catalogue to find the style number of thearticular combination fitting desired. The placard illustrated graphically displays one hundred possible combination ttings. This number may ob viously bc greatly increased by increasing 90 the number of interchangeable elements illustrated. ln this connection it should be pointed out that it is of course unnecessary that precisely thesame number o zu and y elements be displayed upon the chart, so long as each element has its corresponding D aperture properly spaced from the center of the disk and each y element has its radial column of identification marks properly spaced apart to correspond with the D 100 apertures. t
I claim as my invention: ,I l. An advertlslng device for a series of* articles with interchangeable parts comprising a member having representations there- 195 onof one part of each of the series of articles and va/separate member having representations thereon of another part of each of the seriesv of articles, said members Abeing movable with relation to each' other to bring 11@ marks for each combination of the coperatv ing arts and means for displaying'the articu ar mark for each combination w en said coperating parts are brought into predetermined relation to each-other.
2. An advertising device for a series of articles with interchangeableA parts comprising a placard having arran ed in a circle thereon one part of each o the series of articles, and a disk pivoted on said placard within said circle and having peripherally represented thereon, the coperating parts of said series of articles, in combination with a series of columns of identication marks on said placard, one for each representation thereon, said disk being` perforated to form a series vof sight apertures corresponding in number to the parts perpherally represented thereon and spaced radially diierent distances from the pivotal center of the disk corresponding to the radial spaces between the identification marks in each column on the placard, substantially as and for the pur ose described.
3. An advertisin device or a series of two-part ttings avingl interchan eable parts, said device comprising a base p acard and a 'disk rotatably mounted thereon, said placard having arranged thereon in a circle outside said dlsk representations of one part of each of said series of fittings, while 'said disk has arranged thereon at its periphery representations of the other part of each of said series of fittings in coperating position, whereby any one part of said series of fittings may be brought into register with any one of the coperatin parts of lsaid series, in combination wit identification marks for various combinations of coperating parts7 and means for displaying the same when said parts are in register.
ln testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of J'two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK V. BURTON.
