NUT-LOCK.
Speciicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 30, i913.
Application filed November 5, 1912. Serial No. 729,662.
To all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE KLENK, a citizen of the United States, residing at lveiser, in the county of Washington and State of Idaho, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Nut-Locks, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to nut locks and the principal object of the invention is the provision of a simple and eiiicient device of this character which enables a nut to be locked upon the bolt and held from displacement.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specilic description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which:-
Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the bolt. Fig. fl is a perspective view of the locking key.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, l represents an ordinary screw bolt comprising a head 2 and a threaded'shank 3 which latter element is provided with a longitudinal channel 4. Threaded upon the bolt is the usual nut 5 and in this instance the nut is provided with a diagonal channel 6 in which is slidably mounted a locking key 7 adapted to engage the channel L in the bolt after the nut has been properly tightened. The rear end of the key is turned up into a finger piece S and the body of the key is longitudinally slotted as shown at 9 so as to receive a set screw 10 which is threaded onto the nut. The channel 6 is of sufiicient length to permit the end of the key to be moved out of the path of the bolt and when the nut is properly tightened the key is moved forwardly onto engagement with the channel t and the set screw 10 set so as to lock the key against movement.
What is claimed as new, is
In combination a threaded bolt having a longitudinal channel throughout the threaded portion thereof, parallel with the center line through the bolt, a nut threaded upon the bolt and having a diagonally positioned channel or recess formed in the top face thereof, a longitudinally slotted key slidably mounted in said channel or recess and having an upturned finger piece and a set screw passing through the slot in the key and threaded onto the nut for locking the key in operative position with its end engaged in the channel of the bolt.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE KLENK.
Witnesses L. J. FELKER, E. P. HALL.
