Application filed'February 1e, 1-913. Serial No. 748,075.
To all 1071077066 may concern:
Be it known that I, VICTOR BEAUREGARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Embroidery-Hoops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to embroidery hoops in which two concentric hoops are employed for holding the fabric between them; the outer hoop being provided with means for compressing it against the inner hoop.
The object of my invention is to provide means for compressing the outer ring which is light, strong and durable and upon which the embroidery thread cannot catch.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of an embroidery hoop constructed and operated in accordance with my invention and Fig. 2 is a view on an enlarged scale partly in elevation and partly in section looking upwardly on line 2-2 in Fig. 1. 1
Referring to the drawings, 3 designates an inner closed hoop and 4 an outer divided hoop. The hoops are concentric and the divided hoop is provided with clamping means whereby it may be compressed on the closed hoop.
On one end 5 of the divided hoop is mounted a screw-1nember 6 having its free end provided with a screw thread 7 and being flattened at its other end 8. The screwmember is fastened to the hoop by suitable eyelets 9. I
Upon the other end 10 of the hoop 4 is mounted a screw-head 11 having a central bore 12 provided with an interior screw thread and adapted to receive the screwmember 6 mounted on the other end of the hoop. The screw-head has a flange 13 and is mounted in a collar or ring 14 carried by a plate 15 fastened to the hoop by eyelets 16. A finger piece 17 is forced upon the screw-head after the latter is mounted in the collar 14 and thereby serves both as a finger piece to operate the screw-head and as a lock to prevent the screw-head being withdrawn from the collar 14.
The operation of my device is as follows: The end of the screw-member 6 is brought into engagement with the central bore 12 of the screw-head 11 and the latter is then turned andscrewed up onthe former until the outer hoop 4 1S compressed upon the inner hoop 3. When in use the two hoops are operated in the usual manner the fabric bemg spread over the inner hoop and held between the two hoops. 1
It will be observed that the clamping means are so constructed that there is no possibility of thread or embroidery silk catching upon any part of the same. All the corners of the screw-head and other parts are rounded off in order that the thread may slip off without being caught.
One important feature of my invention resides in the construction of the screw head, in that the flange 13 is an integral part of the head. As this flange bears against the collar 14 to prevent the head separating therefrom when the hoop is being clamped it is essential that it have sufficient strength to withstand the repeated strains incidental to the use of embroidery hoops. I have found from experience that if this. flange is not made integral with the screwhead, the strain to which it is subjected soon forces it off and the clamping device is thereby rendered useless. Vvhere, however, the
flange is made integral with the head, there. I
is no possibility of the head becoming disengaged from the collar 14 and, consequently, my device is very durable and will last indefinitely.
What I claim is I 1. An embroidery hoop comprisin an inner closed hoop and an outer dividedlioop provided with means for compressing it upon the inner hoops said means consisting of a screw-member secured on one. end of 'said divided hoop, a collar fastened to the other end of said hoop and a screw-head havlng a flange at one end integral therewith and a finger piece; said screw-head being rotatably mountedin said collar and held in place therein by said flange on one side and said finger piece on the other side of said collar.
2. An embroidery hoop comprising an inner closed hoop and an outer divided hoop provided with means for compressing it upon the inner hoop; said means consisting of a screw member fastened to one end and a collar secured to the other end of said divided hoop, a screw-head having a central threaded bore to receive the said screw member and having at its opposite end a flange integral therewith and a finger piece forced upon the body of said screw-head; Witnesses, this the eleventh day of Februsaid screw-head being rotatably mounted in ary, 1913.
said collar and held in place thereon by said flange on one side and said finger piece on VICTOR BEAUREGARD' a the other side of said collar.
\Vitnesses: In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my CHARLES F. RICHARDSON, hand in the presence of two subscribing E. F. NUIAQ.
