REMOVER.
APPLICATION PILPD JI1N.20.1912.

. SMQ/Moz entran DAVID HONOR-OF, OF GARY, INDIANA.
REMOVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Ang. 26,1913.
Application filed January 20, 1912. Serial No. 672,423.
To aU vwhom, it may concern.
Be it known that I, DAVID lloNoRor,v a citizen of the United States, residing at Gary, in the county of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Im. provements in Removers, of whichthefollowing is a specification.
The general object of the invention is to facilitate the operation of lifting or drawing a liquid from a relatively deep and narrow receptacle and to this end the invention consists in a barrel or container for the liquid to bedrawn or lifted and having one end portion adapted for insertion into the receptacle from which the liquid is to be removed, and means for creating a vacuum in the barrel whereby the liquid fromthe receptacle will be forced upwardly into the barrel under the action of atmospheric pressure.
-Other objects will appear. and. be better understood from the following description. taken in connection with the accompanying drawings inwhich Figure 1 is a side elevation partly insection of one embodiment of the intention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail section of the valve for controlling the passage to one end of the barrel also showing the bulb or aspirator connected to the valve. .Fig Sis a detail cross section of the valve. Fig. 4 is a detail cross section on the. line 4,-4, on F ig.'1.
The'barrel or receptacle 5 may be of any desired volume and may also be` formed of any suitable material such as metal. This barrel or receptacle hasat one end a spout or nozzle 'A whose diameter is relatively small as contrasted with that of the barrel or receptacle. The spout or nozzle A. is extensible and consists of an inner tube 6 over which slides the outer tube 7 having at one end a suitable gasket 8 which frictionally 'contacts the tube 6 whereby to prevent the escape of 'air or liquid, the opposite end of the outer` tube 7 being provided with a screen of suitable construction such as a per foi-ated nipple 9 which connects to the outer end of the tube 7. y
' By the provision of the extensible spout or nozzle A, the device is particularly adapt ed for use in connection with removing liquid from such receptacles as bottles and in this connection it will be observed that the device is peculiarly adapt ed for separating the lighter of tivo liquids of different speciiic gravities such as the cream from the milk in the ordinary milk bottle, sincel it will be manifest that, if .the length of the spout or nozzle when fully extended Corresponds to the length of the bottle, the said spout may be adjusted so as to extend into the cream only, regardless of the quantity of liquid in thebottle y rl`he liquid is drawn vor lifted through the spout or nozzle and into the containerby the suction produced by a rubber bulb 10 which has atube 11 which suitably connects' to the open end 12 of a tubular two-way valve 13 adapted for turning in a reduced tubular extension 14 on the upper end of the barrelor container-5.
By turning thevalve 13 so that the ports or passages 15 and 17 will communicate with .the open end of the extension 14, communication will be cut ott between bulb 10v and interior of the barrel 5. When the valve is so turned the air which is expelled from the bulb by collapsing the same will pass into the atmosphere. By holding the bulb collapsed. and turning the valve 13 by means of the hand-hold 16 until the ports 15 and 18 communicate with the barrel 5, the port 17 will be turned away from the open end of the extension 14 so that when the bulb is permitted to expand by releasing the. same a vacuum will he created in the stem or nozzle and barrel or 'container' 5 whereby, if the said nozzle be inserted into liquid the same will be forced upwardly through and into the barrel 5 under the action of atmospheric pressure. If less than the Adesired quantity of liquid passes into the barrel under the lirst expansion of the bulb, then the quantity so drawn may be added to by first turning the valve until the ports 15 and 17 thereof communicate with the atmosphere. The bulb is the'n' compressed is turned until the ports 15'and 18 thereof again communicate with the container 5 or collapsed after which the valve whereupon liquid will lagain flow' into the l container when the bulb is released. With this construction it will be manifest that the quantity of liquid may be increased in the container without the necessity of'first eX- peiling through the nozzle the liquid which scribed the container may be filled without n Although I have shown and described one t body, a hollow stem leading from one end .within the scope of the claims without deseid plug withinjthe hollow portion of the removing the nozzle from the liquid and without agitetin the letter so as to cause the heavier liqui to mix with the lighter.
embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that I am not to be limited to the sal-ne since'l various changes 'may -be made perting from. the spirit of the invention.-
Havmg thus fully described 'the invention, what I. claim as new, is:-
. In a remover the combination of e. hollow of the body and communicating therewith,- a. velve plug operative in the stem and pro" jecting 1n both directions beyond the same,
ope this patent may be @bed vfor noviem the4 stem having an open end,` and a bulb 25 x connected to the open end of said` valve plug. I ln testimony whereof I niiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
