residing atP-ichmond Hill. in the county of Queens and State of New York, have ini'cnted' certain new and useful Improvements in Printing-Plate Holders and Registering Clamps, of which the following is a specification. v
The invention relates to-means for holding and registering stereotype, electrotype and other printing plates and particularly to that class of clamping device which is employed with a. bed or base provided with plurality of grooves in its upper surtace to which the plate holding and registering hooks or clamps are let down and lifted bodily out of the same. These plate engaging or clampingdevices are often known in the trade as register hooks.
Another feature of the invention resides in the making of the clamping device a unitary structure and locating the actuating parts within the body portion thereof, thereby forming a construction in which all of the actuating parts are protected from dust and ink and whereby they are less liable to become injured by contact with any object when the clamp is removed from the base or bed.

In a register hook for use with bases for supporting printers plates, the combination with a bodymember having parallel sides, said body member carrying a plate engaging member at the top portion thereof, of a rack held by and between the sides and gear means for moving the body member member or members constructed so as to enage a base and so as to hold the register 08k in position thereupon, said rack also having secured thereto a spring which maintains said rack in holding position.
