Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. McPAR- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dubuque, in the county of Dubuque and- State of Iowa, have 'invented certain new -a-nd useful Improvements in Drain-Heads; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it apipertairus to malte and use the same.
This invention relates to drain-heads.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved form of drain head to be used in connection with. tileor other drain pipe, for conveying the water from the clay-soils downward through the stratum of clay into the sub-strata of sand or other soil which is more porous than the clay, so as to provide a proper drainage for the clay-soil.
Another object of the invention is to provide a. device of this character in connection with a comparatively shallow well of considerable area, and 'to cover said well so as to prevent the same from being, filledV with earth, so that water may accumulate within the well whence it is conducted downward through the drain pipe or tile.
A further object of the invention isl to` provide a drain-head of this character with an air outlet and with a protecting cap or crown forthe air outlet.

Referring'specitically to the drawings, in which similar reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the figures, indicates a hollow cap member and 5` a separate dome shaped crown member. The crown' lmember 5 is provided with a horizontal peripheral flange 10 and has its eentrahupper portion on the inside thickened`v at 15, and flattened to rest upon the top of a shaft 8, preferably composed of superposed tiles. Upwardly projecting from the center of the crown member is a tubular extension '12 having a central' bore 11, which communicates with the interior of the cap member 6. Thecap member rests upon the top of the crown member and 1s provided in its lower edge with openings 13. The thickened portionl.

It will he. seen that I have provlded an improved form of drain head which is fully capable of attaining the foregoing! objects in a tlmroughlv practical and eliieient manner. I do not limit in v invention to the exact details of eonstructifm,coml'iination and a-rrangement of parts as herewith illustrated and described, but my invention may only be limited by-a reasonable interpretation of the claims. i
