Be it known that I, THOMAS SAMUEL Pan- TIN, a'citizen of the United States, residing at Junction, in the count State of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in F (mt( luards for Rails, of which the following is a speci fication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention compreheuds certain new and useful improvements in foot guards to be employed at railway. switch points and the like.

An object of the invention is to provide a foot guard of this character which will be of extremely simple construction and may be readily applied to till the space betweeip the main rail or switch rail and the guard rail, thereby making itpractically impossible for a persons foot to become caught between said rails.

Another object is to provide a guard rail of this character which may be formed of rwilient sheet metal or other suitable mattfilinl and will be of extremely simple construction and highly etticient in use.

With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of emistruction, combination and arrange menls of parts to be hereinafter more fully des ribeth claimed and illustrated in the.

lVhile l have shown the preferred form of my invention, it will be understood that it i desired, minor changes in the details of coni' struction may be made within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention. Unit I claim is:-- i A foot guard coni 'irising a horizontal poi: ltio-n, a downwardly directed porti n-connected with one edge of the horizontal portion, a turned portion connected with a second edge of the horizontal portion and adapted for engagement over a rail while the horizontal and downwardly directed portions are adapted for engagement between said rail and a second rail spaced from the first rail. and a downwardly and outwardly directed port-ion connecting \\'lll1 j the turned portion and adapted for engagel l i 1 I l l ment against the outer face and base of the first rail, said downwardly and outwardly directed portion bein provided with notches for accommodating the spikes employed for securing the first rail upon its tie, whereby PAQVGH'IQ-Ht of the foot guard Will be prevented.
