Application filed August 25, 1910. Serial No. 578,832.
To all whom-"it may concern:
Be itknown that I, FRANK B. BEIXKAMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and Statebf Ohio, have invented certainnew and useful Leg- Operated Tempo-Lever Attachments for Player-Pianos, of which the tollowingis a specification. My invention relates to means for operating the tempo lever of a player pian with the leg of the operator.
The object of my invention is to construct a device which will enable a person to operate a player piano and control the tempo of same while his hands. are occupied in play ing another musical instrument such as a cornet, mandolin, violimliute or any instrument which requires the use of the handsand arms to manipulate it.
My invention consists in a connection attached to a player piano adapted to be operated by the leg of the operator to actuate the tempo lever of the player iano.
My invention also consists in the details of construction and; in the parts and combination and arrangements of parts as herein set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which serves to illustrate the construction and use of my invention; Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the keyboard of. a player pianoequipped with my invention.
Fig. 2 IS an end elevation o? a portion of a player piano showing the position and manner of mounting my attachment. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of that portion of the" attachment which engages the tempo lover of the player piano. Fig. 4 is a detail comprises a pivotally mounted supporting arm having a hollow extension adapted to receive adyustahle tempo le er e g gscrew 15 ing member 9, said engaging member being fastened to the hollow extension 8 by means of a set screw 10. The tempo lever engagened and shortened as desired and is held.
at any desired length by means of a set At the other end offthe' telescopiciconnecting member 14 the leg engaging; yoke 16 is pivoted and held by means of the thumb screw 17 and having prongs l8 adjusta-bly mounted therein and held in position by means of set screws 19.
By means of the construction shown it is evident that the device may be readily adjusted to accommodate. itself to any size person as well as any style or size of player piano, the tempo lever 4 being placed in different positions on difierent styles of player pianos.
My device will be found of inestimable value to singers who wish to play their own accompaniments upon player pianos, inasmuch as they areenabled to remain in a natural singing position and are not compelled to lean forward to operate the tempo lever with their hand.
It will thus be seen that this device enables a person to obtain any variation or not therefore wish to be confined to the exact construction shown.
