- ssrn J'. msnm or smurf, .rENN'sYLvANm A. noLLERfBaRINcL Be it known that-il, SETH J. GiLsoN, a citizen of the United: States, residingl lat Sharon, in theState of Pennsylvania, ave invented new and useful Improvements in Roller-Bearings, of which the following is a specification. Y l
This invention relates to improvements`v in 4wheels, and the primary object of the -in- A which will appear as `the nature of the description progresses, vthe'invention resides' 1n the, novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully {described and claimed. Y
In the accompanying drawingsthere has been illustrated asimple-.and preferred4 embodiment of theimprovement, and in which drawings- Y j j I Figure 1I is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved type of wheel. Fig. 2 is .a transverse sectional view through one ofthe wheels.
My improved wheels 5 'have their rims preferably provided-withV the. usual flanges 7 so as to prevent the lateral movement of the same upon the tracksv and the like. The' pin or axle 4 of each of the 'wheels Ahas itsv inner or body portion of an angular formation, while its ends are round, andthe said angular body 'portion is adapted to be received within the angular bore of what I term the boxing 9 of the axle 4. The boxing is of a lesser length than the pin axle 4, and itssides or edges are adapted to Contact with the links 2 of the conveyer. The box-A ing 9is provided adjacent each of its ends with an annular flange or projection 1Q, and the space between these flanges is adapted to serve as a pocket for the reception of ant-ifrictional rollers 11.
The numeral 12` designates the-housing `for the rollers. rThis housing compuses a pair of sections 13 and 14. Each of these.

sections are of a circularformation, having. theirsides off-set toform dust-proof, wheels 15, the latter being arranged only a slight A distance away from the annular projections 10 of the.boxings 9. One of the sections of ,the housing, v13, is formed at its inner end with an off-set enlargement 16, yand the opposite section 14 has'itsI endsinserted be.
tween thel enlargement 16A and the end of the sect-ionv 13. It will be noted thatV the sections of the housing are adaptedvto conf Y tact with the bearing rollers 11,*and when the parts are thus assembled, a tread 17 ...is cast' or otherwise securely connected with the housing 12.
By this arrangement,1it'
willbe noted that the rotary portions vof the wheel, with the exception of the-rollers.
11, form what maybe term`d a single piece and that the rollers are effectively housed so as to prevent the seizing of the Vsaid rollers of foreign substances, such* as hot Water, lyeJ metal sparks, etc., lto which all wheels for hot exposed.
One of the housing sections, sayA 13, has its flange provided with an opening 18, the same being merely closed through the me'- dium of a suitable stopper 19, and this opening is adapted to serve. as a means whereby the rollers 11 may be lubricated.
Having thus fully described the said invention, what I claim is:-
metal casting machines are In combination an axle, a boxing mounted uponthe axle, said axle and boxing. being formed to prevent nany accidental rotation of the boxing thereon, saidl boxing having its outer face' of circular formation provided with a pair of relatively spaced out' said flanges being disposed adjacent t nal portions` of the boxing, bearing rollers between said flanges, a housing comprising a pair of annular`-members resting upon said rollers and each having al1-'inwardly' directed side flange disposed in spaced relation4 to the outer 'faces of said first named annular Aflanges and terminating in spaced relation with the outer face of the boxing, the inner edges of one of said members having an annular offset enlargement adapted to overlie, the inner edge of the othengnember, one of saidsections being provided' withl :1 inln'iczlni opening, moans 'for closing the Intgestimonywyheljof I afx my signature nponlng, :i member connected to the outer i 1n presence' t w0 '\v1tnesses mel'nlwrs ni' the hmlsinr :md of a width @ETH J Y IL equal f o lhelnjulill of the Suid housing, the l l L G SON smul .Uecions moot-mg :1nd overlying at, ai VVltillosses:
