UNITED STATES. PATENT orrion EMILE GABRIEL ROYER, OF PARIS, FRANCE, .ASSIGNOR TO SOCIE'IF ANONYIVIE ORIONA. OF BRUSSELS, BELGIUM.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILE GABRIEL Roman, a citizen of the French Republic, and resi dent of Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements fin Electric Incandescent Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in electric incandescent lamps, the object of the improvement being to so arrange the filaments as to prevent the casting of shadows,
..Fig.
and to increase the range of the light thrown ofi by the lamp.
The invention also co-mprehends improvemerits in the details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinin the claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of one form of my improved lamp. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is an elevation of another form of the invention. Fig. 4 is'a bottom plan view of the same. I I} -1 indicates abulb, providedmiith a'socket 2. Depending frontthesocket is a rod 27, aving two spaced apartcollars from which extend outwardly projecting hooks 28. At
the bottom of the rod is a head 30, from which extend downwardly inclined hooks 31, A filament is supported on the books 28, in substantially a series of vertical strands arran ed in cylindrical form as shown in l the ends of the filament being connected to the lead' -wires-33 and'34. This filament will throw from the lamp, as will be obvious.
A filament 32, is supported on the hooks 31, and is arranged in a horizontal plane below the filament 29. The strands .of the filament 32, extend beyond the vertical plane of the filament 29, to ofi'set the shadows which may be thrown by the latter. Filament 32, is designed to throw the rays of light downwardly from the lamp. The ,termmals of the filament 32, are connected to the lead wires 33 and 34, as shown in Fig. 1.
In the form of the invention shown in Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 4, 1911.
particularly pointed out the rays 0% light radially lower annular Patented July 1, 1913. Serial No. 606,605.
Figs. 3 and 4, the central stem 43, in the. bulb 1 is provided with two collars 44 and 45. Extending radially from the collar 44, are hooks 46, while irom the collar'45, ex' tend vertical hooks 47. The distance from the center of the stem-43, to the ends of the hooks 46, is much greater than the distance from the center of the stem to the hooks '47, consequently the strands of the filament, indicated at 48, supported by the hooks, incline upwardly so that the rays of light are thrown radially and downwardly;
Depending'from the collar 45, are hooks 49, and horizontally supported on these hooks are'the strands of a filament 50, I
which throw the rays of light downwardly.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided an incandescent lamp which will throw out the rays'of light radially'and downwardly in suchmanner as to avoid shadows. i
I claim Y 1. In combination, a globe, a standard mounted centrally in the globe, annular supports mounted on the standard, and a l ilalnent secured on the supports, a part of said filaments extending vertically between the supports and another part of said fila Inent extending transversely across the central plane of the standard;
2. In combination, a globe, at standard centrally mounted in the globe, ,upper and lower annular supports mounted on the standard, hooks extending from the annular supports, a support at the bottom of the standard, and a filament extending'from the hooks on the annular supports in substantially (vertical l'ines, said filament also extending across the support at the bottom of thestandard and across the vertical plane of the upper 'and lower supports.
3. In combination, a globe, a standard, centrally mountedin the globe, upper and supports mounted on the standard, hooks on the annular supports, an annular support at the bott'onrof the standard, said latter support being of greater di- 95 ameter than the upper and lower annular supports, and a filament supported on the In testimony whereof I"ha'.i' e herennto set hooks betkeen the upper and lower Sn'pports my hand in presence of two witnesses. and also extending across the support on the lower end of the standard, the part of EMILE GABRIEL the filament extending across the lower an- Witnesses:
nular support projecting beyond the vertical 4 H. C. COKE,
plane of the vertical part of the filament. 1 EMMANUEL GUI'IHON.)
