Application' med november 1,1910'. serial .loQ-ssoiea 1' To all whom #may confermi Be it knownthat I, JACOB C. citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at cw York, in the' coun'tyf of New Yorkand State of New York, have invented `a certain new. and -nseful- Improrelnent in Electrical Switching Apparatus, of which the following is in fnll,'cl ear, Concise, and exact de- The inrentionprorides a pair of anti-friction polishedmetal balls arranged 'to move' with the lmovable contactfand a'track consisting of Vtwo metal surfaces, `one Aoi which is yielding or resilient.. These are located above and belowv the path otmovement of the balls and the track ifs notched or indent-.
ed vso that the ballsenter registering depress sions inthe upper vand the lower track, one- .of saidl track `meml'iers yielding to permit .the 1' movementfro'm'one depression to anv other. A'IheswitclrisA rovidedwith 'asplit ring having a' pair of j iametrically' opposite' radial projections extending toward thecenter.. This Aring holds its. position by'reason of its friction with thesurroundingwall in the .base and isfa'glaptedto receive'and` removably hold a' cover having-notches adapted to engage with the described radial points or projections.
`The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention t. j
FigureA l'1s a vertical section o'the switch and the cover, thelatter applied to a rib/ra'- ltory circuit breaker; the section is taken on the section line shown 1n- Fig. 2 looklng/ @a the direction of thearrows.'l -Ii`igf'A is arplan view o'f the switching apparatus with V.the covers removed. Fig. 3 shows the splitringandFig". 4 shows .the cover.
The switch has a plurality ofoontats 20,

The vmovableContact.2() is per-v forated to receive 'andjrnllyfhold aeylin- 60 drical section --25' in l which 'i are `'sper-[posed polished metal antif'frictio'n ballsv'26 and'27. The ball 26 moves with the'contacti20f-in engagementwith the surface' of a-ftack '28 of springmetal firmly heldiby'fthe washer 2 9 65 and the cylindrical-section 'mwhichlisjiipset at its opposite ends -lilreal rivet: Q-This cylin` f which the-"movable member'ZO' its inf in engagement .wit-lia mtal track -lfvfoljmed ofsheet br Ss `bentjto forni -achaniielnand sulatingv material' and is located AOil-'ii -in'etal base piece secured tothe b'oxja;4 by?v news. .75 Thelbox avis'designed tocontain a.- con enser andv other apparatusto referred to.\`\ At eorrespondmglfor'registering points inv `fetracks es and. 31 are-notches, infleniationsx -or depressions 32,] 33,l-and these registerngsff@ notchesea're located- With respectto'the electrical Contact .positionsof moyablej contact* Q0 soA thatiwhen contact Q Ofis', ineither the on or' the v oil'l positionl held against accidentalmovement, but in Such al yielding manner that the'-pressure of' the hand will easilychange it. The lvibratory switch or circuit breaker lo automatically makes and breaks the circuit l@,axid the vibratory break point isjbrid'g'ed ,by ay condenser 43 to be. located in the. box a in a 110 manner well understood. There is a anged ringJr (Fig. 3)- having lugs 11, and a split or point of separation at 10 is employed. This is located in position. and retained on the base where yit encircles thel flange f The cover c is shown in F ig. 4 with the usual arrangement of notch for the bayonet joint. This notch is duplicated at diametrically opposite points and the two notches l2 enga e with the lugs 11 projecting through an e f, while the split ring 1' yields to accommo ate itself to its position on the flange f. Conductor sections, like 45, unite the various elemental parts in circuit with the vibrator v, in manner well known.
What I claim and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is l. The combination in a switching apparatus, of an electrical contact, a comple- (mentary, movable contact, means for confning a pair of superposed balls lon said movable contact with their opposite surfaces ex nosed, a track for said balls located on one si e, vand a resilient track for said balls located on the opposite side of the path of said balls. 2. In a switching apparatus, the combination of a plurality of contacts, one of Said contacts being relatlvely movable, and means for holding said movable contact in either of two positions, consisting of a cell supported by said movable contact; a pair of superposed balls confined in said cell, a contact surface havin notches or depressions on one side of saidallsv and a resilient contact plate having corresponding notches or depressions located on the opposite side of said balls. y
In Witness whereof, I, hereunto subscribe my name Vthis 28th day of October D.,
